On FaceBook Dell Spot add something to denote it`s a Canadian site. By sugarbear,  May 13, 2010

I think Dell Spot should show on the page, that they are Canadian. There is only one small reference on the home page that shows where they are and it`s a Twitter link. Perhaps inside the Blue Dell circle, you could put CA. or the Canadian flag. Something to make the reader realize it`s not a US site.

Dell Ink and Printers - Sell them at Best Buy and other stores. ******Edited****** By stormrider451,  Mar 1, 2008

Now that DELL computers AND printers are starting to be sold at Best Buy, I believe that selling Dell Ink and possibly more Dell Printers at Best Buy is a good step to take for DELL. Maybe selling more Dell printers would be a good thing when DELL ink is easier to get or at least its sold in the same plac e the printer is being sold.

The reality is that buying Dell ink is a total hassle for some people. My mother in law has spent hours waiting on the phone trying to order an ink only to get the wrong ink sent to her in the mail and sometimes even faulty ink that didnt work. You might say, order it online, its faster, but when she tried that they also sent her the wrong ink. This is not an efficient way of handeling the retail of a product that needs to be replaced every so often. This ineficiency pushes costumers just as her to go to the local Walgreen's store or Office Max to simply refill the cartriges (which is cheaper too), hanging dell to dry in this department.

The recent contract that allows dell to sell ink at Staples is a very good step forward, but I think its not enough. I mean, we dont even have a Staples here in Puerto Rico. But we do have Best Buy (as of yesterday actually :D). Lets get DELL ink into other major stores like Best Buy. The truth is that this kind of hassle of having to order your ink makes me shy away from buying any DELL printer. Why buy a DELL printer if I can buy an HP printer and get the ink anywhere I want? Older people prefer to get in their cars and drive to a store to buy things, instead of logging in and trying to buy it online. And trust me, with the amount of baby boomers around, you would benefit a lot from making this kind of changes.

EDIT: ****************************
Best buy has the product red printer. Seriously, if you are going to sell the printers at Best Buy, you need to sell ink there too. If someone is going to buy that printer, many will ask: "Ok what ink do I buy for it?" because many people when they buy a new printer take extra ink cartridges. The Best BUy person will then tell them that they will have to go online to order the ink. What do you think many people will do on that moment? Many will simply say, thats not pratical at all, I want my ink now and NOT buy the printer. Plus, the person doesnt even know how the dell ink service works online, so he will have to make a decission on a purchase he doesnt even know how its going to work out or doesnt even know how much the ink is worth because he cant see it infront of him. Many people will simply NOT buy the printer due to this uncertainty especially older people who find internet a scary business. The availability of Dell printers at Best Buy makes the availability of Dell Inks at Best Buy even more needed.

Thanks!

Ubuntu on Studio Notebooks By joshhendo,  Jul 3, 2008

The new Dell Studio laptops look great! Taking the best design features from many other Dell products, and put them all into one.

This laptop actually looks like it should run Linux (that is the first thing I thought when I saw it). I don't know why I say that, but it just does. So, why not give it ago? I don't have a Studio, though I suspect it shouldn't take too much to get Ubuntu working (may need one or two drivers written, but from my experience with Dell laptops and Ubuntu, most things work well).

This is one of the products I would particularly like to see Ubuntu as an option to be pre-inatlled on if Ubuntu can't be an option on all models.

Children's PC By jotje,  Oct 7, 2008

Build a pc just for kids.
As a mother of two young primary school children I find that there is an enormous amount of pc games for my children, but I do not want to grant them access to my pc as they would possibly destroy any information or programmes that I may have on it. At the same time they are too young to use the internet or "eral" programmes. Can Dell build a kids pc, which would give them the speed necessary for the so-called skills games, the screen for optimum view especially now that you are venturing into different colours (soemthing all kids love). There is no need for internet connection, but you must be able to play a cd and/or dvd on it.

No more plastic wrap, please By falbert,  May 22, 2008

In the last shipment of computers I received I was shocked by the amount of plastic wrap used for items like power cords, USB cables, VGA/DVI cables. Do these items really need to be individually wrapped in a plastic bag. I can just imagine the tons of plastic used by Dell annually...

Something to think about

Offer Complete Cover on Alienware Products By boettr,  May 18, 2008

I recently went searching for a gaming laptop.

I was previously unaware of Dells complete cover service but was extremely pleased to find it when configuring a m1730.

When plans changed and I decided to get a 15" laptop instead I moved to the Alienware site. I searched in vain but was unable to find any way to get complete cover for my Alienware laptop.

When paying over $4,000.00 for a laptop the security of complete cover is a great comfort.

Considering that Alienwares target market is a niche of enthusiasts I would think that complete cover has a clear place as part of its offering.

What does everyone else think?

Configure the M17x and you will see that Complete Care is a warranty option.

Always include all software and driver reinstallation discs for free (or at least let us get the option to)... don't make us pay extra By winoffice,  May 1, 2007

Always include ALL software AND driver reinstallation discs for FREE (or at let us get the option do get the for free if we want as follows)...don't make us pay extra in case that we have a disaster and need to reinstall from scratch...!

No Discs Included (Included In Price)

All Discs Included (this means everything -- all software discs -- OS/Security software/etc., and all driver discs -- this means Windows or Linux drivers or both, whatever applies -- add $0)

Other options (OS disc only, all software discs only, driver discs only, etc. -- add $0)

For some computers, Dell does not include the reinstallation discs. Even if Dell offers them, Dell charges extra for us to get them. In fact, the only time I seen reinstallation discs being offered without charge were for Dell XPS desktops with the flashy lights -- that is, the Dell XPS 600, 700, and 710 systems, for those ware the only systems to offer operating system options like "Microsoft Windows XP Media Center WITH REINSTALLATION CD".

Also, most of the time when software reinstallation discs are not included, driver reinstallation discs (such as XPS flashy lights, as well as printers and monitors) are not included either. Therefore, don't just include the software reinstallation discs -- include as well the Windows/Linux drivers for the hardware (depending on the OS purchased with the computer, if any, which in turn depends on the user's preferences).

Besides, Microsoft as well as ALL software companies include the discs when you get the software seperately, so why can't Dell do the same when the software is preinstalled...?

Customers no longer have to pay extra for re-installation media.

Computers made with bamboo By lrousseau,  Mar 19, 2007

Could investigate use of alternate/natural materials to build computers. The engine should be regular materials of course, but the casing housing it could be bamboo - very resistant and light material, as well as communicating a totally "eco-friendly" message to consumers. No one else is doing it.

Reduce the amount of packaging By mabeaver,  Sep 11, 2007

Having recently been involved with rolling out a large number of Dell Optiplex systems.

I found it amazing how many boxes, plastic bags, cable ties & polystyrene had to be removed and disposed of. This ended up taking much more time than installing and configuring the systems.

I understand that Dell need to protect their products during shipping but there must be away of making the unpackaging process easier for corporate customers as well as reducing the environmental impact.

Don't make us buy Vista By icantseeyou,  Feb 21, 2007

From all of the press I have read it is plain that Vista is a big bomb. To buy the cheapest version I hear it isn't even as good as XP SP2. At the same time you need at least 4 Gig to run it. Offer other options... I don't care if it's Linux, XP, or a rat running on a wheel. Don't make us buy Vista.

Dont eliminate XP just yet By javaprog07,  Feb 17, 2007

Ok, well I know I may be chastised for bringing this up, but vista is still a young operating system with its own problems etc... I would like to see both Home and Business computers, especially notebooks have an XP Home and Pro option on top of Vista until it has at least been out for a year. For those seasoned users like me who just feel that you need to let a new OS mature before jumping right in. I am planning on buying a new notebook, and I would like to insure I wont have to format it on arrival just to have XP.

Dell's Website must work with Firefox running on Linux By qgonjon,  Jul 16, 2007

It's discouraging to have a Tier 1 vendor (Dell) selling Linux products and yet not really tailoring to Linux. Don't get me wrong Dell, I am not trying to take away all the good you have done. Offering Linux is a step in the right direction and I would like to see more steps taken in a monthly or quarterly basis. But, it seems that the basis for your current Linux promotion is for the Open Source enthusiast like me. I use Linux at home and at work as my main operating system. I use Firefox as my browser and I'm trying to order a Dell Inspiron 1420N. However, it seems that the embedded flash script that shows the different colors choices for the Inspiron is not working under Linux. It also shows that I can't see the different images thereafter. It works with Windows running Firefox as my vmware machine verified. But that is not the type of user that will most likely purchase a Linux laptop.

My request is simple. Can someone fix and verify that this page works well with Linux browser technology? So, that users can enjoy purchasing your Linux products and demonstrate that Dell really cares about their customer's operating system preference.

Dell I wish you the best in this venture as your success in this territory will help the Linux Desktop become a reality to the open source community.

Less waste from toner cartridges By doomlord52,  Jun 30, 2007

This is probably the BIGGEST polution issue with computers in general. The printer cartdriges CANT be re-used, CANT be re-filled, and for some reason, i CANT just buy 1 colour, for my colour printer.... like BLACK (word docs...). Instead, dell could have the cartridges sent BACK to Dell, to be cleaned re-filled. etc.... Just a thought. Although i dont go through that many cartridges (so far, 1 re-load in.... 5 years), comapnies, printer places (kinko's or whatever) school's, they all use a horendus amount of ink.

decrease packaging, and or make it easier to deal with... By wallet55,  Jun 30, 2007

The easiest way to solve this problem would be to lock your top executives in a room without the scissors, razor blades, hammers and flamethrowers that are needed to unpack computers, speakers etc and not let them out till it is done or they pass out from hypertension. Excessive, overly secure packaging can be attacked from an environmental point of view, but right now, I just want to be able to get my stuff without cursing in front of small children.....

stop the madness!
