integrate USB disk into notebook charger By ThorstenStaerk,  Yesterday

The chargers for the notebooks have become much thinner now. Fill up the space again with a USB harddisk. Advantage: You will automatically always have this harddisk with you. You could use it as a backup disk.

Colored interiors of netbooks By mythslayer,  Aug 14, 2010

Please consider white (or other colors) for interior  of the netbooks and laptops. Not just the keyboard but also the bezels (I believe that's what they're called) around the screen and keyboard.

As patient with incurable cancer, (CTCL) I am using alternative therapies for healing, including color therapy to cheer my mood.  A cheerful outlook has helped heal patients.

I was gifted an Acer netbook that was white on the inside. (And even though I was never a "pink" person, I found even the pink outside helped cheer my mood but mostly the interior.)  Black is a negative color, denoting tense, nervous, harassed or overworked.  It's just plain depressing to look at.  Our family owns / owned several different colors of netbooks and laptops.  All those they now have are black interiors.  Ugh.

I would really prefer to buy American made products, more specifically a Dell as I'm enamored by Mr. Michael Dell's life story and creation of the Dell company.  I hope you'll consider my idea.
Thanks

Make video card that play HD video standard on netbooks. By RWPruitt,  3 days ago

How about making video card that support displaying streaming HD videos a standard on all netbook devices.  HD audio is already installed and widescreen displays are used. Use video components that will actually play the widescreen HD videos without stuttering. HD video is almost completely a standard online.

Processer Upgrade By joe5593,  Aug 20, 2010

It might be better if you provided a processor upgrade option on the Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 from a Intel Atom processor to at least an Intel Celeron 900 processor to increase the speed peroformance and reach out to those who need a decent, but budget-fitting compact laptop>

DELL MINI 10: Add 32GB SSD, Linux, and Touchscreen as options By pwl2706,  Aug 20, 2010

Many of us that buy products like the Dell Mini don't need 150GB of videos or music - nor do we want the overhead of Windows.

What we want is something for web-browsing, VOIP Chat (Skype), and email, plus some documents...

on the Dell Mini 10 why not add:
  • 8GB-12GB-24GB-32GB-40GB SSD options
  • Linux option
  • Touchscreen option

I love netbooks. Will there ever be a netbook with an i5 processor that is turbo boost capable By everyoyo,  Apr 10, 2010

Let me tell you my part and my everyday life. I am a student and will go to college soon. I am going to use a laptop or netbook for school and want to have it very mobile with an option to play games. This all will satisfy my needs for a netbook that is truly gaming. I am not saying this m11x is good, but it has many great potentials for growth and advancement. If you take your thinking caps on. Maybe Dell, Alienware, may again win another award at the CES with netbooks. They have such a great potential because of their mobility and applications. It would be a great addition much like it is right now. I've read some views on this and people love it. The only people that don't love it is because we can't play all games on it. However I have read many game recommended requirements and all they need an intel core 3.0Ghz or greater, and an intel core i5 m 540 surely surpasses this needs. If you guys could think of a way to get this netbook to work great this at least this processor it will revolutionize the netbooks with great power within it. Well, thanks for hearing my thoughts and hope it will inspire you to innovate and plan for the future of netbooks in which i see great likelihood of potential with it.

Only offer good SSDs (e.g. Intel, Indilinx) and not bad SSDs (e.g. JMicron) By Fanfoot,  Aug 4, 2009

Anybody who is buying a computer with an SSD these days needs to be educated. There are good SSDs (Intel, anything with an Indilinx controller like the OCZ Vertex), there are some so-so SSDs (Samsung) and there are really really bad SSDs (JMicron controllers, most of the cheap stuff).

If you are going to offer SSDs as options on your computers, you need to (a) only offer good SSDs, and (b) clue us in on which ones you are offering. I can live with "OCZ Vertex". I can live with "Dell branded SSD using Indilinx controller" (though you then have to own releasing updated firmware as things evolve, such as Trim support). I just can't live with NOT knowing the type of SSD I'm spending all that money for.

If you don't tell me, I'll just outfit the thing with the cheapest disk you offer, and then do the upgrade myself, costing myself time, but saving myself money. And YOU Dell will lose out.

Disapointing SD slot on Alienware M11x By Punisher,  Apr 9, 2010

I was attempting to use an ADATA 8GB class 10 SDHC with the Win7 ReadyBoost option. It functions, and it does add a small amount of performance improvement, but the SD sticks out the side of the machine. I would have liked it to insert all the way in like the integrated SIM card right above it. I wanted to make the SD a permanent addition to the PC, but I'm now afraid that I will break it off on accident. Besides that I'm used to the high gloss screen and the machine performs perfectly.

Vostro version of the Inspiron Mini 1012 By Elranzer,  Jul 2, 2010

Dell now has consumer-grade and education-grade netbooks (Inspiron Mini and Latitude 2100). What's missing is a netbook for small business and enterprise. Dell, please rebrand the Inspiron Mini 1012 netbook as Vostro netbooks.

You have already done this in the past with the Dell Mini 9, rebranded as the Vostro A90 with a higher build quality black casing and business support. However, the Inspiron Mini 10 (1012) is the more capable netbook, with its N450 CPU and extended battery that sits flush in the design of the computer.

Please upgrade the CPU to the DDR3-capable N455/N475, make the case a non-glossy black or silver and sell it as the new business-centric netbook.

The Latitude 2100 netbook is branded as an education market design and not really suitable for business/enterprise. I think a rebranded Inspiron 1012 as a Vostro (with N455/N475 CPU) is just what the doctor ordered.

Netbook Backlit Keyboard & Pointing Stick By BrianG,  Jan 13, 2010

Please build netbooks (at least in the Latitude series) that have a backlit keyboard and pointing stick included.  I don't know of any manufacturer that has either, let alone BOTH of these features available on a netbook!

I'm holding off on buying a netbook until I get both of these features as I've used a Pointing Stick since IBM came out with it (I can't use Track Pads for regular mouse control as I use the mouse a lot and it wears out the tip of my finger unlike the Pointing Stick which doesn't).  I've also been asking Dell for backlit keyboards for 3 years before they came out on the E-Series and I was really impressed and happy with the implementation!

Ideally I'd love to see these features offered for every notebook and netbooks, but at least be consistent with the Latitude series.  And yes, I'm willing to pay more for a netbook with a backlit keyboard and pointing stick as it make the experience MUCH more enjoyable!  Thanks!

Serious business netbook at Dell? By zoltanh721,  Jun 26, 2010

The travelling business man doesn't needs too much horsepower, but huge mobility, connection possibility at every time and every way. If Dell creates such netbook, then I think there inside the category must target the high end.
- Intel Atom 455
- 2 Gigs DDR3
- SSD with docking system (similarly as DELL D6XX)
- Metal alloy case, and chicklet keyboard with backlit
- Camera
- Dell Mini's 10-13 inch LED screen
- Wifi, bluetooth
- HDMI for presentations, and presentation set as option

Opinion?

2GB Ram Upgrade Option for Dell Mini 10's with Ubuntu. By w1ng3dkn1ght,  Nov 23, 2009

As understood, Dell Mini 10's are restricted to only 1GB of ram due to the agreement with Microsoft and the use of Windows XP on the Mini's. It is unfair for those who want to buy Ubuntu and are restricted to 1GB of ram. I understand that Ubuntu is open source software, and that Dell is not in any kind of ram restriction agreement with Ubuntu. So I think it would be fair to add a 2GB ram upgrade option for those who want a Dell Mini with Ubuntu on it.

For this reason, I haven't brought a Dell Mini. Many people as well have decided for now not to buy a Dell Mini 10 because of this. I really don't want to start looking else where for a Netbook.

I hope the community and dell employees revise this idea and implement it. Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this.

NOTE: I apologize if this was seen elsewhere, I did not select any categories in which to this goes.

Dell Mini 10v Chrome OS+Ubuntu dual boot for Xmas By sjhook,  Nov 27, 2009

Dell recently announced they had got Google Chrome OS working on a Mini 10V. Obviously it it is an early hack but is clearly possible. How about getting it working well and offering it as a dual boot with ubuntu (karmic) on the Mini by Xmas. Getting Chrome OS running is a good boost for Dell's image. Now turn it in to something exciting for Xmas.

Dell Mini Nickalodian Edition By BrodeurPC,  Nov 28, 2009

I believe that the Dell Mini Nickalodian edition, should have the EduUbuntu operating system or the Ubuntu Netbook Remix. If this netbook was intended for the younger generation of the computing world, Ubuntu and Linux in general is safer, faster, and more robust than Windows. The EduUbuntu has some really nice programs for learning and schools. The Ubuntu Netbook Remix seems to perform much faster than Windows does on the minis and gives the user more to do an more to choose from.

Ideas from a consumer's point of view on a Dell Mini 10- By Elembytes,  May 16, 2010

I Dell ought to revert back to it's Mini 9 design which allows consumer's the ability to remove 3 screws and change out their 1 Gig of RAM for a 2 Gig of RAM.  Why this was changed I do not understand.

I also believe there needs to be more clarity on the website to help consumer's learn and know what model Mini they are looking for and what would work best for them.

I would also like to see some sort of new design that would allow for CD's/DVD's and Blue Ray to be played on a Mini without having to worry about a seperate drive.  Maybe a thicker unit that would work I don't know, I'll leave that to the engineers.

A full WIndows 7 Capability would be nice instead of a starter version that doesn't allow for any changes to the desktop screen.

Bring back left/right buttons for Mini 10 By archontophoenix,  Nov 29, 2009

Please bring back separate left and right buttons for the touchpad on the Mini 10.

Some of us habitually disable tap-to-click (because otherwise we wind up accidentally clicking on things we don't mean to), and always use the right and left buttons. This also makes it easy to use one hand to manipulate the button while the other traverses the touchpad, distributing the work between the hands for better ergonomics.

The button functionality on the current Mini 10 is implemented by depressing the lower left or right corner of the touchpad. However, attempting to manipulate it in the usual way (one finger depressing the button while the other moves across the touchpad) confuses the touchpad and makes the cursor jump all over the screen. Separate buttons, as found on most every other laptop, would be much better.

Support the MeeGo project By sirebral,  May 29, 2010

I don't see DELL as one of the supporters of the new MeeGo OS and I think DELL should invest in it.

MeeGo is going to take Linux to a new level. It is a core OS with portability in mind. It is being designed for Handhelds, TV Computers, Car Devices, and Netbooks. This is a huge market that DELL needs to get involved in or they will miss the boat.

Google is falling into the same trap that Windows fell into. A seperate core OS for each device type. Windows has CE and Google has their modified Linux kernel with Java. Google's Chrome OS is a terrible invasion of privacy and it also has a different core.

The MeeGo project is going to take Linux to the mainstream much faster than Netbooks did and in a much broader scope as well.

DELL. This is the OS you are looking for. It will cover all your handhelds and future netbooks. You can stabilize and focus your market goals. Please, get your name on the list of MeeGo supporters, get involved in developing the OS, and then maybe forget about the people that are going to fall into the same trap of 're inventing the wheel' all the time.

Google and Microsoft constantly re invent the wheel, and then take credit for their reinvention. MeeGo will succeed in providing a portable OS that multiple devices can share a core structure with.

Install USB Stick By delphiking1980,  Dec 30, 2009

I've got an Dell Inpirion Mini 10:

To Reinstall this Netbook you must have an external CD/DVD Drive.

My Idea is: The CD/DVD with Drivers and Utilitys and the Operationsystem on an Bootable USB-Stick.
