Better Latitude E4310 By Rebel333,  Aug 14, 2010

Hello at All,

Latitude E4310 is truly thin and light machine, but not perfect in every aspects. Here are my recommendations:

-Four USB 3.0 interface (the current model only has a single USB 2.0 interface and a USB/eSATA combination),

-HDMI output instead of 15-pin VGA connector,

-Higher resolution screen (on a premium machine 1366x768 pixels is just not enough),

-Better graphics option or AMD Fusion APU from when it is avaiable,

-Better scratch resistance.

Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) driver for Latitude E Series with Broadcom USH CV w/ fingerprint reader By norbalino,  Mar 3, 2010

DELL should provide a Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) driver for the device Broadcom USH CV w/ fingerprint reader that comes with DELL Latitude E Series laptops to allows using the built-in fingerprint reader with any WBF compatible applications (UPEK, DigitalPersona...) by making it recognized in the Biometric Devices Control Panel from Windows 7. In my opinion this would improve the usability of the fingerprint reader significantly.

A better graphic option for all Latitudes By Aus,  Apr 20, 2009

It would be much better if all Latitudes, especially E4200/4300 had a better graphic option.

For integrated graphic line, it should be provided at least Geforce 9300GS or 9400G with 256 dedicated ram.

Prefer to buy ATI discrete graphics than Nvidia. By Rebel333,  Mar 10, 2010

I like Dell computers very much and I recently buy new laptops to work on it and enjoy it. But many times there is no option for my needs. Like I would like to buy a Latitude with ATi discrete graphics, but only option is Intel and sometimes Nvidia graphics. Intel is ok for those one who are using it only works, but many of us doing everything on our laptops; work, multimedia and even games. Therefore we need Nvidia or ATI. However Nvidia's are not so modern nowadays so I would prefer ATI discrete in the upcoming Latitudes!
Intel<Nvidia<Ati.
Keep the Slim & Beautiful shape like your new Vostro 3000 laptops, but add ATI discrete graphics option to customizing them. Thanks!

Need Linux on Latitudes By hardawayd,  Jun 5, 2007

I need to buy a dell this summer but need the Latitude series with Ubuntu. I also would like a 64GB flash drive instead of the rotating disk types.

Sell Lattitude Model Laptops with Ubuntu Preinstalled By rollerskatejamms,  Jun 17, 2007

Some of us use our laptops for work and need something a bit more rugged. It's really awesome that Dell is providing Inspiron's with Ubuntu preinstalled now, but a professional level laptop guaranteed to be Ubuntu compatible would be AMAZING!

Allow Dell Preferred Account holders to purchase Latitude laptops By wayne62682,  May 2, 2009

I'm a programmer and I want to buy a good quality laptop that can be used with a docking station.  Unfortunately the only Dell model that seems to have decent docking stations are the Latitude line, which Dell considers to be "business class".

I have a Dell Preferred account and I wish to buy a Latitude, but Dell refuses to sell it to me on credit because I'm a consumer and not a business.  This segregation of customers is ridiculous.  I do not want your average run of the mill home computer, but I also would like to finance it.

Please, allow us to use our preferred account to buy what you consider "business class" machines.

Wireless Antenna Switch Location By brianwhitt,  Jul 23, 2010

Why does the location of the wireless antenna switch have to be in different places on each machine? I've had a lattitude that you had to use keystrokes, now the E6400 expects you to somehow know that there's a tiny button on the right-hand side of the computer. Brilliant! Can't you come up with a standard where it is visible and clearly mark it?

Latitude with 17" widescreen and 10 Key By bob2007,  Mar 16, 2007

This year we purchased the D820. We almost purchased an HP or Gateway because of the following features missing from the D820:

15" widescreen - with the widescreen format you can see more columns on a spreadsheet, but at 15" the text is to small and some users complain about eye strain when using the laptop in the field.

The HP and Gateway 17" widescreen models use the extra space to add a full 10 key to the keyboard - This is essential for people working in the financial industry.

The next round of purchases will likely be from a different vendor if these features are still missing.

ability to disable touchpad in bios By nyxatko,  Jun 25, 2010

Buttons for pointing stick on latest latitude models (E6410, E6510) are designed in such away that without being extremely careful it's almost impossible to press them without also touching touchpad, effectively turning almost every click into doubleclick. This makes pointing stick basically useless.

It's possible to turn of touchpad in windows drivers, but with other operating systems, you're out of luck until proper drivers are made. Current linux driver sees both touchpad and pointing stick as the same device and it's not possible to filter out events sent from just one of them.

Problem could be solved simply by creating option in bios to disable touchpad and leaving pointing stick working.

Latitude E series anti-skid rubber feet are cheap and break off too easily By goaliefight,  Apr 22, 2010

The rubber feet on the bottom of the E series Latitudes are cheap and come off too easily. The D series had much better feet.

Latitude On should be a BTO option By goaliefight,  Apr 22, 2010

The Latitude ON is just another gimmick that I (as a very busy IT manager) don’t want to support. Please make it a BTO option so I don’t have to manually remove it.

The Latitude E6410 and E6510 default Bios SATA settings and paritioning scheme are suboptimal By goaliefight,  Apr 22, 2010

The default partitioning scheme on the new E6410 and E6510 is suboptimal. What is IRRT and why do I have to have a 15GB partition for it? Seems like a waste of storage space. Also, the Bios SATA drive settings are suboptimal. They should not be configured for RAID. ACHI is the best setting but you must reinstall windows to switch this setting.

Make batteries compatible By lysglimt,  Apr 20, 2007

I have a Dell Latitude laptop where I have bought spare batteries for when I travel. I was about to buy a new Latitude, same model - just newer. But my spare batteries won't work! They are the same voltage but the design is slightly different. So I have to trash 3 perfectly fine working batteries and buy new ones. Please think long-term - think 5-10-20 years ahead. Make sure the batteries and other parts are standardized and always fit.

Dell test drive By bruce1289,  Apr 29, 2010

For schools i know Dell offers demo units to see if they like them. In the company i work for we have no luck with test units, and we would like to see if the latitude would be a good alternative to some workstations. Giving a test unit would make the descion much easier for us here.

Put some attitude into the Latitude By jervis961,  May 4, 2007

Dell needs a new Latitude model for people who need a stylish notebook for work but want it to be capable of play activities also. It should have a LED back lit 13.3 inch high resolution/contrast ratio trans reflective screen that swivels like a tablet but without the touch screen (touchscreen could be an upgrade). The option of a non-glossy screen would be available.

Media buttons on the monitor would be helpful for times when the screen is turned around and wouldn't be accidentally pushed when resting the notebook on your lap. A good example would be when you're on a plane watching a movie, the notebook would fit better in this configuration allowing you to see the screen easier.

Dell should use a design like in this leaked photo of an upcoming ultraportable.

It needs to have options like Dual core processor (Quad core when available for mobile), DVD burner, fingerprint reader, SSD, 5-1 card reader(with a cover so the card doesn't fall out), HDMI, Dolby Certified sound as well as a video card that is DX10 with at least 256mb of RAM(perhaps use cards from the Precision line for things like video editing) . It needs to be dual hard drive capable, 2 headphone jacks, built in microphone and the option of a built in camera 2MP or better. A WiFi hot spot finder would be helpful. Don't forget the docking port and gigabit Ethernet. Please, Please, Please do not skimp on bandwidth, only the newest technology please.

A LED light that can illuminate the keyboard in dark rooms and media connect must be standard. I would actually recommend using a black light over the keyboard as the white letters would pop without using a very bright light.

Vista Sideshow could be an option as well. At least a small monochrome screen with basic information so you don't have to power up the system.

I think there would be a large market for this type of system.

The advertising would be a great boost to Dell's image. Showing how your "new L-attitude" has changed your life. I've always looked at the Apple VS PC ads and wondered why can't I have both. I think Dell can supply the notebook that finally brings work and play together in a stylish but professional looking package.

What other options do you think should be added?

It is soo difficult to write a document or do anything on a laptop when the lights are off and screen brightness isnt blazing due to strain on the eyes.

LIGHT UP MY MOBILE EXPERIENCE WITH A LIGHT UP KEYBOARD!!!

ps. use LED's for that. The Latitude D420 should have this as a standard feature!

I would love to buy a Dell Latitude D620 with Home Premium. For the Latitude's superb build quality, instead i have to buy a Inspiron. Why cant Dell have the choice of:

Home Basic
Home Premium
Business
Ultimate

The Latitude D620 is a powerful notebook and can handle Home Premium.

PLEASE DELL!

Bring the Latitude to the Home/Home Office (Latitude equals Dell style and quality as it SHOULD be!) By hotuan87,  May 18, 2007

Compare the touch and feel of a MacBook to that of an Inspiron. It doesn't compare. The Inspiron isn't as stylish, and has a cheap plasticky feel. The MacBooks are solid, sturdy, and, if you have a MacBook PRO, made of metal.
For college students such as myself who put our computers through the abuse of daily use, it only gets worse. My Mac colleagues, however, still show off their shiny (literally) only slightly beaten MacBooks.

The Latitude, however, is everything the Inspiron should be in terms of design and style. Don't limit the Latitude to just Business users, get it to your average consumer!

People shouldn't be comparing the look and feel of MacBooks to Inspirons, they should be comparing them to Latitudes!

Dell should make the new latitude line open-source soon. By eivuwan,  Aug 26, 2008

Dell has made a number of computers open-source and I hope that they would make the new latitude e-family series part of their N-Series soon. It is difficult for some linux users to decide whether or not to purchase the new latitudes because uninstalling vista and installing linux might be risky on new hardware.
