integrate USB disk into notebook charger By ThorstenStaerk,  Yesterday

The chargers for the notebooks have become much thinner now. Fill up the space again with a USB harddisk. Advantage: You will automatically always have this harddisk with you. You could use it as a backup disk.

Make video card that play HD video standard on netbooks. By RWPruitt,  3 days ago

How about making video card that support displaying streaming HD videos a standard on all netbook devices.  HD audio is already installed and widescreen displays are used. Use video components that will actually play the widescreen HD videos without stuttering. HD video is almost completely a standard online.

Processer Upgrade By joe5593,  Aug 20, 2010

It might be better if you provided a processor upgrade option on the Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 from a Intel Atom processor to at least an Intel Celeron 900 processor to increase the speed peroformance and reach out to those who need a decent, but budget-fitting compact laptop>

DELL MINI 10: Add 32GB SSD, Linux, and Touchscreen as options By pwl2706,  Aug 20, 2010

Many of us that buy products like the Dell Mini don't need 150GB of videos or music - nor do we want the overhead of Windows.

What we want is something for web-browsing, VOIP Chat (Skype), and email, plus some documents...

on the Dell Mini 10 why not add:
  • 8GB-12GB-24GB-32GB-40GB SSD options
  • Linux option
  • Touchscreen option

Colored interiors of netbooks By mythslayer,  Aug 14, 2010

Please consider white (or other colors) for interior  of the netbooks and laptops. Not just the keyboard but also the bezels (I believe that's what they're called) around the screen and keyboard.

As patient with incurable cancer, (CTCL) I am using alternative therapies for healing, including color therapy to cheer my mood.  A cheerful outlook has helped heal patients.

I was gifted an Acer netbook that was white on the inside. (And even though I was never a "pink" person, I found even the pink outside helped cheer my mood but mostly the interior.)  Black is a negative color, denoting tense, nervous, harassed or overworked.  It's just plain depressing to look at.  Our family owns / owned several different colors of netbooks and laptops.  All those they now have are black interiors.  Ugh.

I would really prefer to buy American made products, more specifically a Dell as I'm enamored by Mr. Michael Dell's life story and creation of the Dell company.  I hope you'll consider my idea.
Thanks

THE DELL GO-BOOK, the next big net book computer By moneymikeyp7,  Aug 10, 2010

My idea is for dell to make a Netbook laptop, named the DELL GO-BOOK computer, that is designed for on the go people. It is made so, if you travel a lot and find yourself always looking for internet connection, this would have one of those devices that has access to WI-FI wherever you are, built into it. Another feature that it would have would be, that it would work similar to a Netbook but a little bigger and still compact. Because of it's convenient size it is easier to travel with and and can be accessed anywhere you needed to use it.

Mini Laptop carry bag with wheels By Suzanne,  Jul 24, 2010

I need a laptop bag that can fit under most airline seats.  I want it to face outward so that I can reach into the first pocket and get what I need.  In the pocket, I would like it to hold a bottle of water, cell phone and billfold and sunglasses.  Pocket behind that would be flat and would hold small magazine or book. The laptop would come next with small pockets for cord and mouse.  Behind that would be another pocket that's flat to hold the ticket and or other papers.   These pockets can go in assending order if possible.  The wheels would be stationary on the bag.  With a push down handle into the back.

Not extremely necessary, but if possible, maybe very small pockets on very front part to carry headache or allergy pills, peppermints, and/or toothpicks!  This would all be buckled down or snapped over by a flap that came from the back and hooked onto the front.  Must be pliable though to be able to be folded out of the way.
Different color choices and styles would be nice, but the size is the most important of all. Must be small enough to carry if wanted to, as a shoulder bag.  This would be an instant sellout.  I see ladies looking for this every time I travel!

Anti-theft system By Abhi_shek,  Jul 24, 2010

hearing many cases of laptops & notebooks' thefts, i think there must be a tracking system in the laptops and notebooks..........
its an essential and exciting feature for DELL Products atleast i think so...
becuase a gadget of around 50,000 INR matters a lot.

DELL/ Status Update

LoJack is available for tracking of stolen systems

The New Indian rupee symbol on keyboard for machines supplied in India By Mahesh,  Jul 15, 2010

India have finalized its official currency symbol and have made it public on 15 July 2010. It is requested to all concerned to provide the facility to type that symbol from keyboard especially for machines (desktops, laptops, notebooks) that are supplied to India.

Importance: The currency symbol need to be used in most of the documents the users need to prepare.

My Mini Idieas. By Odin10,  Jul 13, 2010

This is where I think dell should go as far as the mini series. Two versions.

-Dell Mini 1025 (For busy but basic school and home office work and travel)
-10.1" HDLED (720p) widescreen with integrated 1.3 webcam.
-Intel® Atom® Processor N450 (optional N470 or N475)
-Windows 7 Starter
-1GB DDR2 (optional 2GB DDR2 or DDR3 with select processors)
-250GB hard drive
-Crystal HD Broadcom Media Accelerator
-Lithium-Ion Battery (6-cell)
-Backlit keyboard and mouse pad with buttons **cars or planes can have poor lighting conditions**
-1 USB 3.0, 1 USB 2.0/eSATA, 1 USB 2.0, RJ45, Audio jacks, kensington lock, HDMI and 3 in 1 card reader
-GPS and TV tuner optional
- Wireless N mini card

-Dell Mini 1225 (For more power hunger programs but same need for portability)
-12.1" HDLED (720p) Widescreen with integrated 2.0 cam (HD cam optional)
-i3 Core Processor (Or closest to it)
-Windows 7 Home Edition (For more than basic functions)
-2GB DDR2 (DDR3 Optional)
-250GB Hard Drive
-Intel® HD Graphics
-Optional Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD or 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M
(Switchable graphics for power saving)
-Lithium-Ion Battery (6-cell)
-Backlit keyboard and mouse pad
-1 USB 3.0, 1 USB 2.0/eSATA, 1 USB 2.0, RJ45, Audio jacks, kensington lock, HDMI and 3 in 1 card reader
-Wireless N mini card
-GPS and TV tuner optional

These are the two best ideas for netbooks. A basic up to date netbook and a more multifunctioning netbook for students who take photograpy class or people who need more use of Windows 7 Home Edition's flexability but still portable enough for traveling from and to work, school and meetings. I know Dell can make them. Options, we need them.

Vostro version of the Inspiron Mini 1012 By Elranzer,  Jul 2, 2010

Dell now has consumer-grade and education-grade netbooks (Inspiron Mini and Latitude 2100). What's missing is a netbook for small business and enterprise. Dell, please rebrand the Inspiron Mini 1012 netbook as Vostro netbooks.

You have already done this in the past with the Dell Mini 9, rebranded as the Vostro A90 with a higher build quality black casing and business support. However, the Inspiron Mini 10 (1012) is the more capable netbook, with its N450 CPU and extended battery that sits flush in the design of the computer.

Please upgrade the CPU to the DDR3-capable N455/N475, make the case a non-glossy black or silver and sell it as the new business-centric netbook.

The Latitude 2100 netbook is branded as an education market design and not really suitable for business/enterprise. I think a rebranded Inspiron 1012 as a Vostro (with N455/N475 CPU) is just what the doctor ordered.

more color choices and custom skins/designs By pbgmomma,  Jun 27, 2010

I was planning to buy  my son a mini laptop for his bday and asked him what color he would like and of course ORANGE his fav. color.. he's got to have his favorite color. Well, I started browsing for an orange mini laptop..and there is none. So I would definetly like to see more color choices for children or even for adults who like a little bit of color & style or even some custom decals for the artists out there! that would be awesome! I know any teenager adult or child would agree. =) Thanks

Serious business netbook at Dell? By zoltanh721,  Jun 26, 2010

The travelling business man doesn't needs too much horsepower, but huge mobility, connection possibility at every time and every way. If Dell creates such netbook, then I think there inside the category must target the high end.
- Intel Atom 455
- 2 Gigs DDR3
- SSD with docking system (similarly as DELL D6XX)
- Metal alloy case, and chicklet keyboard with backlit
- Camera
- Dell Mini's 10-13 inch LED screen
- Wifi, bluetooth
- HDMI for presentations, and presentation set as option

Opinion?

Make an 11z (professional appearing) laptop with all the power of an m11x, you will sell more! By afreemanb,  Jun 13, 2010

I just bought an m11x i7.  I am extremely happy with the power of the computer (size, etc).  But Dell, you would have had my money some time ago if you offered the same hardware in a less chintzy looking package.  I understand the gamer boyz want something that advertises, but some of us would prefer to be more discrete (not to mention, an alienware laptop is an immediate theft target).

I LOVE the 11z form factor.  If the 11z were available with the same power & options as the m11x, I would have bought it months go (I know the i7 just came out, but I would have bought the core 2 a while ago).

Make an 11 inch computer with the same video, processors, hdd, etc as the m11x, and you will sell a lot more of them to businesspeople who want to have an easy to carry around, discrete-appearing, businesslike-appearing computer, that is more than able to run a few fun games when you are stuck in a hotel for the 20th time in a month.

I'd be quite pleased to test any such notebook (netbook?) if you like.

i3-i7 processor options.
4-8gb memory
1gb nvidia GPU with automatic switching to integrated to save power.
160-500 gb drive.
Good screen.
no internal optical.
TINY POWER SUPPLY (or better yet, an integrated, replaceable one (in case it burns out).
POWER COUPLING NOT SOLDERED TO MOTHERBOARD!  For pity's sake, don't give your computer an achilles heel like that.  Attach the power coupling to the motherboard via wires, so if the cord gets yanked on, it doesn't damage the motherboard.

Honestly I very nearly didn't buy the m11x because of how it looks, and I am not that hung up on looks.  But it looks like a toy.  I want, and would be willing to pay more for, a computer that has all the power of the m11x but just looks like an 11z (or slightly larger).

Keep in mind, a heck of a lot of these laptops are bought by parents for their kids, and many of the parents have no clue about computers.  How many more m11x class computers could you be selling if the parents didn't look at the computer and instantly say "toy" or "gaming machine?"

Support the MeeGo project By sirebral,  May 29, 2010

I don't see DELL as one of the supporters of the new MeeGo OS and I think DELL should invest in it.

MeeGo is going to take Linux to a new level. It is a core OS with portability in mind. It is being designed for Handhelds, TV Computers, Car Devices, and Netbooks. This is a huge market that DELL needs to get involved in or they will miss the boat.

Google is falling into the same trap that Windows fell into. A seperate core OS for each device type. Windows has CE and Google has their modified Linux kernel with Java. Google's Chrome OS is a terrible invasion of privacy and it also has a different core.

The MeeGo project is going to take Linux to the mainstream much faster than Netbooks did and in a much broader scope as well.

DELL. This is the OS you are looking for. It will cover all your handhelds and future netbooks. You can stabilize and focus your market goals. Please, get your name on the list of MeeGo supporters, get involved in developing the OS, and then maybe forget about the people that are going to fall into the same trap of 're inventing the wheel' all the time.

Google and Microsoft constantly re invent the wheel, and then take credit for their reinvention. MeeGo will succeed in providing a portable OS that multiple devices can share a core structure with.

Netbook style KVM By chipwade,  May 19, 2010

A Netbook sized KVM solution for Data Centers.  It would simply be a Netbook that functions as a Keyboard, Video, and Mouse(no laptop functionality at all).  I have worked in data centers for years now and have to deal with big clunky crash carts.  The Netbook KVM could hang on the wall next to the door of the DC on a charging station.  It could clip to the rack when in use.
