I just bought an m11x i7.  I am extremely happy with the power of the computer (size, etc).  But Dell, you would have had my money some time ago if you offered the same hardware in a less chintzy looking package.  I understand the gamer boyz want something that advertises, but some of us would prefer to be more discrete (not to mention, an alienware laptop is an immediate theft target).
I LOVE the 11z form factor. Â If the 11z were available with the same power & options as the m11x, I would have bought it months go (I know the i7 just came out, but I would have bought the core 2 a while ago).
Make an 11 inch computer with the same video, processors, hdd, etc as the m11x, and you will sell a lot more of them to businesspeople who want to have an easy to carry around, discrete-appearing, businesslike-appearing computer, that is more than able to run a few fun games when you are stuck in a hotel for the 20th time in a month.
I'd be quite pleased to test any such notebook (netbook?) if you like.
i3-i7 processor options.
4-8gb memory
1gb nvidia GPU with automatic switching to integrated to save power.
160-500 gb drive.
Good screen.
no internal optical.
TINY POWER SUPPLY (or better yet, an integrated, replaceable one (in case it burns out).
POWER COUPLING NOT SOLDERED TO MOTHERBOARD! Â For pity's sake, don't give your computer an achilles heel like that. Â Attach the power coupling to the motherboard via wires, so if the cord gets yanked on, it doesn't damage the motherboard.
Honestly I very nearly didn't buy the m11x because of how it looks, and I am not that hung up on looks. Â But it looks like a toy. Â I want, and would be willing to pay more for, a computer that has all the power of the m11x but just looks like an 11z (or slightly larger).
Keep in mind, a heck of a lot of these laptops are bought by parents for their kids, and many of the parents have no clue about computers. Â How many more m11x class computers could you be selling if the parents didn't look at the computer and instantly say "toy" or "gaming machine?"
