Net Book Add On By Thicket,  Jan 27, 2010

I have recently purchased a netbook and sitting using it on my lap I think a good idea for people who like to use a mouse would be to have an add on for the mouse to sit on. This would be similar to  a small  tray which could be bought as an accessory to clip on or built into the netbook/laptop and would slide out from the base of the netbook to whatever level is comfortable.

Studio Mini By Fjosech,  Jan 21, 2010

There should be a 10 inch version of the studio with better features then the regular mini and with the design of the studio (the way the screen is attached, metal dell symbol, etc...).

Netbook with entire keyboard as dynamic touch surface By InvaderAz,  Jan 21, 2010

Imagine the Mini 10 without a physical keyboard, it's just a capacitive touch surface with a monochrome LCD underneath.  The LCD shows a keyboard when you want to type with a track pad. Except the track pad is resizable. And you can swipe the num-pad into view etc.  Just have a number of virtual input device pages.

Sure this isn't a new idea. However I think it could achive what the hyped Courier could do and be cheap and easy to bring to market much sooner because surely a simple monochrome display under a touch surface is pretty cheap to make now?

I'd like Logitech to make one of these for my Workstation too?  It could let me design my own interface pad for a specific game. License the API for input schemas for specific apps.

Further more if you can make the hinge robust enough it could swing all the way around to clip behind. And the device could operate as a slate/tablet without your fingers getting in the way of what I'm looking at. They are used below.

Another form factor to experiment with is the like the phones with slide out keyboards. There could be notches to slide it out say just an inch or two if all you need to do is turn the page etc.

I'd like it to allow the stylus as well for One Note use too. That is handy for work. Although what I really need is One-Note with Dabbleboard style drawing.

It's better than an oversized iPhone because I already have an iPhone.  This is for real work. For me that means I still need Windows for now at least.

Anyone else want one of these?  (And not years away  like Courier seems to be)

Netbook Smartphone Support (REDFLY) By BrianG,  Jan 13, 2010

Can you provide REDFLY or REDFLY-like support of smartphones on your netbooks and even notebooks?  I know a REDFLY is supposed to be a less-expensive netbook/notebook, but it's really not much less than netbooks these days and I'd love to have the functionality of both REDFLY and a netbook/notebook all-in-one (think dual-boot for energy savings)!  Since REDFLY is planning to support Google Android and I know you're realeasing an Android phone, this would be a nice match!  Specifically though, I'm looking for WinMobile support, not Android support, but REDFLY already supports WinMobile.

Netbook Backlit Keyboard & Pointing Stick By BrianG,  Jan 13, 2010

Please build netbooks (at least in the Latitude series) that have a backlit keyboard and pointing stick included.  I don't know of any manufacturer that has either, let alone BOTH of these features available on a netbook!

I'm holding off on buying a netbook until I get both of these features as I've used a Pointing Stick since IBM came out with it (I can't use Track Pads for regular mouse control as I use the mouse a lot and it wears out the tip of my finger unlike the Pointing Stick which doesn't).  I've also been asking Dell for backlit keyboards for 3 years before they came out on the E-Series and I was really impressed and happy with the implementation!

Ideally I'd love to see these features offered for every notebook and netbooks, but at least be consistent with the Latitude series.  And yes, I'm willing to pay more for a netbook with a backlit keyboard and pointing stick as it make the experience MUCH more enjoyable!  Thanks!

WiMAX card available in at least ALL netbooks line By Consul,  Jan 3, 2010

As WiMAX becomes widely available in major cities, not offering the card is certainly a shortcoming comparing to other vendors like Lenovo.

As netbooks are supposed to deliver the best mobility experience, they must find a way to make a WiMAX card to fit under the hood.

DELL MINI :- Why not 2gb ram and 250gb hard disk in INDIA By ADARSH,  Dec 28, 2009

Recently i saw saw dell mini 10v and really liked it. i wanted to gift it to my fiancee. but when i enquired about the configuration over the net found out that dell mini just has 1gb ram and 160gb hard disk where as in Singapore , middle east the config varies like 2gb ram and 250gb hard drive.  I Believe these days 1gb of ram is not sufficient and 160 GB of hard drive either. i believe ill see mini with 2gb ram and 250gb hard drive very soon and i could gift it to my fiancee.

dell 14" laptop promotion By jackaw,  Dec 7, 2009

 hello,

since school is going to re-open soon,
strongly suggest Dell to continue 14" laptop promotion,
so that students can get good deals for their study.
in november 2009 I saw a promotion $750 for 14" laptop,
strongly believe can continue this type of promotion (or maybe Dell can sell it at lower price?),
pls help to look into.

DO AWAY WITH THE GLOSSY FINISH ON THE INSPIRON/MINI CASES. FINGERPRINTS EVERYWHERE! By dsudar,  Dec 7, 2009

Don't usually take the time to post on products, but this is different.  I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 for my boss and it arrived today.  The shiney shell is beautiful until you touch it.  This is impractical for everyday use as smears and smudges will detract from the overal beauty of the laptop.  I am constantly having to wipe this thing down..... Not something I should have to concern myself with when purchasing electronics.....

Flip screen By gewc,  Nov 30, 2009

Have a netbook with internet capabilities (ie to use in a kitchen for recipes) e-mail and a flip screen to allow it to be used as a reader. Light weight. Is this possible?

Bring back left/right buttons for Mini 10 By archontophoenix,  Nov 29, 2009

Please bring back separate left and right buttons for the touchpad on the Mini 10.

Some of us habitually disable tap-to-click (because otherwise we wind up accidentally clicking on things we don't mean to), and always use the right and left buttons. This also makes it easy to use one hand to manipulate the button while the other traverses the touchpad, distributing the work between the hands for better ergonomics.

The button functionality on the current Mini 10 is implemented by depressing the lower left or right corner of the touchpad. However, attempting to manipulate it in the usual way (one finger depressing the button while the other moves across the touchpad) confuses the touchpad and makes the cursor jump all over the screen. Separate buttons, as found on most every other laptop, would be much better.

Mini solar pannels for netbooks By o0ZeluS0o,  Nov 29, 2009

Why not, if the computer is off or in sleep mode it would charge. Even if it only charged a little bit. Great for marketing, GREEN PC! I also saw somewhere on the internet an Idea that little mini pannels close to the backlighting lights could create some energy also?

Dell Mini Nickalodian Edition By BrodeurPC,  Nov 28, 2009

I believe that the Dell Mini Nickalodian edition, should have the EduUbuntu operating system or the Ubuntu Netbook Remix. If this netbook was intended for the younger generation of the computing world, Ubuntu and Linux in general is safer, faster, and more robust than Windows. The EduUbuntu has some really nice programs for learning and schools. The Ubuntu Netbook Remix seems to perform much faster than Windows does on the minis and gives the user more to do an more to choose from.

Dell Mini 10v Chrome OS+Ubuntu dual boot for Xmas By sjhook,  Nov 27, 2009

Dell recently announced they had got Google Chrome OS working on a Mini 10V. Obviously it it is an early hack but is clearly possible. How about getting it working well and offering it as a dual boot with ubuntu (karmic) on the Mini by Xmas. Getting Chrome OS running is a good boost for Dell's image. Now turn it in to something exciting for Xmas.
