How about building webcams into Dell's line of LCD monitors.

That's only useful if you don't need to adjust the direction of the camera; if you do, depending on your setup, you may not be able to conveniently move the monitor so people can see you.

I would prefer a camera that is both affordable and high-quality, but compact so you could simply clip it to the top or side of the monitor.

I think that this would be fine in certain applications such as meeting rooms but I would suspect that the majority of my end users would think we were spying on them or the likes. Perhaps it is a good idea for it to be an optional item, perhaps it could be flipped out from a parked position or something along those lines.

    Thanks

Well it`s a good idea for people who don`t care about being hacked or their privacy BUT for people who DO CARE about these issues make that silly webcam with mic an option so everybody can decide if he or she wants such a silly thing build in.

Another tip: start reading George Orwell`s book 1984.

When done with it, you might start thinking otherwise about integrated webcams and mics.

demoted because I don't use them and don't like them eating up space and causing a wider than necessary border

I demoted because these Ultrasharp Monitors are largely purchased by businesses (and some gamers) thus an integrated Mic and Cam is not desirable if those situations. (Yes they can chose not to use them, but why pay extra for something you won't use?) Making it optionla on the same ultrasharps may not be desirable to Dell, because they will have to produce these monitors in different runs and that will increase the cost for all customers of the large monitors, including those who don't want the extra stuff. Unless the Mike and Cam is an addon like the sound bar. Please DO NOT suggest that dell offer integrated speakers in these monitors becaus either. I prefer that Dell continue offering the integrated mics, cams and speakers on seperate consumer oriented monitor lines.

jericho I do not use webcams and I will not be paying for what I will not use. Even if I will be using webcams in the future, they will be external (not integrated), because I don't want a hole in the top of my monitors. The same applies to all my laptops - I don't want a hole in the top of the lid, so I will be using external webcams if any webcam at all. That is why I said "offer".

For the Ultrashrp series for the Monitors, include an integrated webcam and microphone in these monitors...you have the SP2008WFP and SP2208WFP which is the monitors with Silver sidings..now to put them cameras and mics in the monitors with the Black sidings. Make this a possibility for these monitors so people can choose a big monitor with webcams in all Monitors, because people want integrated webcams with any monitor they choose.

I would only go with it if it was a VERY good quality web cam. Not only long lasting, but easy to use, motion tracking and good resolution are all features I would want to see in it before I would go with it. And preferably it should be optional. They should not make all monitors have them.

Great idea! So I won't have to buy webcams anymore! This would be helpful by not adding webcams. Oh, and hey, they got integrated cams in the Dell XPS M1330, and also Mac notebooks and the iMac. So this is not new.
