The r2 version has to have the ability to come with a gtx 670 card or similar power when the next gen cards are out in 2013. Reason being is that many people are running higher resolution monitors then 1080 and some are running multiple monitors. The 660 card is fine for 1080 but fails when you go above that. Now the X51 will have to improve in cooling, and possible grow a little to handle larger video cards and better cooling. I say drop the optical drive or at least make it an option to drop it. This will keep it lighter, simpler inside and help with cooling. I would love the option to not have to go with the m17x or m18x which I already own but it is sad that the 680m is stronger then the 660 desktop card and that the x51 was not designed to use the top cards. So much room to have low end x51 and high end one. Look at all the people willing to spend 400 bucs on the side for a gtx 670 and add it into the case? There is a huge market for Alienware to have a sff x51 with a top notch video card. Looks like Falcon northwest wtih their Tiki, digital storm with their Bolt and the other boutiques with sff computers are taking what could be X51 market share.

My new thoughts 7 months laterWell now I own the M17x and the M18x and the nice latitude 14 inch bus laptop. Based on my usage of the m18x as a desktop replacement I think the x51 would be more suitable. As one of your very best customers I also own a Dell 30 inch I would like to suggest one humble change to the x51 or two rather lol.
Please, Please add the new Asus gtx 670 dcmoc small card. This thing is purely awesome 6.5 inches long and 30 percent cooler and quieter then the reference card. This will make the X51 perfect except two more things really lol.
Drop the darn optical drive That will save space, improve cooling, cabling and weight and cost. Most everyone downloads or you can just add an external, please take the lead in this Dell. Also add the possibility of a 480 to 500 gb ssd.
If you just do these things I will once again throw the x51 on my dell financial account and add to the already 15k I have spent in the last 4 years Dell. I am seriously looking at htpc cases from Silverston and Lian Li because the X51 is far from perfect right now. I hope you are listening, I suppose I could add the card myself and the ssd but then it would not be under warranty which is the whole point of buying Alienware.

thanks as always for the great input. We can't discuss future or unreleased products and we do recognize the need for greater graphics power in the X51 product line. In fact, many enthusiasts have already taken that leap to the GTX670 with the current X51 unit as the 330W PSU does have enough power to drive that card. As always please keep the ideas flowing and we will always consider them in our product line.
