How it is:
Currently when ordering an Alienware laptop you have two options, one being Cosmic Black and the other being Nebula Red. Also these options are only available for laptops, there is no option like this for desktops.

How it Should Be:
I'm sure that many people and not just me would love to see more customization options for their alienware without using a 3rd party source. By adding more color options you add truly full customization to the alienware line up. I know for a fact that there are people out there that would love to have the colors of their laptop or desktop match their AlienFX settings. Now many people have thought of colors that would look good on laptops or desktops so here's a list of some of them!

1. Lunar Silver
2. Solar Orange
3. Nova Blue
4. Gamma Purple
5. Alien Green (Martian Green?)
6. Celestial Yellow

I was speaking directly with an alienware employee and he told me that he loved the idea and i should put it here, so lets see what happens :)

I thought more about this and decided it'd be more compelling if we had mockups and examples. So I got right to work. Here's what I have so far (they look awesome, I'm sure you'll think):

With a M14x:
Twilight Blue - a vivid, deep, darker blue, in soft-touch

Cobalt Dust - my personal favorite - a more demure grayish blue, that gives way to a vibrant powdery-shine in light

And with a M17x I have;
Martian Green - a vivid, deep metallic green - this will be familiar to owners of older Alienware desktops

And on the ever flamboyant M18x:
Solar Gold - an attention grabbing, powerful gold/deep-yellow exterior dusted with fine, embedded metal particles that come to life in bright light - perfect for flaunting your purchase

I approve of this, but I'd also like more finishing options - like a shiny, matte powder blue, maybe? I really like powder finishes. But definitely more colors.

I saw a comment from Dell in my recent M18x review that said to standby for more beastly choices!!! I am hoping that of course means more color options. I am hoping for a deep viper Blue myself on at leat the m18x. Hope they keep it a beast and all Aluminum and huge and strong. A Dark Green would be second no lime green please. Looking forward to all the new Alienware options as far as laptops and x51. The Aurora is so far out there in desireability for me compared to the competition.

Yes this is a great idea, keep the soft touch though it is both pleasing to the touch, easy to keep clean, durable and makes it lighter. Only other option would be Carbon Fibre. I have aluminum on the m18x and the magnesium make it Heavy. The m17x is nearly perfect now after numerous revisions,. I am hoping the r5 has the same look but maybe slightly thinner and lighter and same soft touch but with all the new colors. It already is head and shoulders above the rest. with new graphics cards comign should be the best m17x yet in 2013, I am thinking Blue or Green for my color opitons

Dimitrios - There are no scratches on the 'Stang in that picture since it was the day I bought it. I wish I could say it was still that way though. :(
