Just like with the unified open standard USB power supply for mobile phones computer manufacturers could limit their footprint and reduce world-wide-waste with a unified power supply.

That would reduce costs.
Mobile devices could be shipped without power supply.
Manufacturers would be less damaging to nature.
Electronic waste would be reduced.
All manufacturers and customers would have a greater benefit.
Natural resources depletion would be diminished.
China dependency would be smaller.
Power supply efficiency could be much higher by investing in a (very) high efficiency (>95%) power supply for several devices.
Electricity bill would therefore be reduced.

Actually, everybody would win and sooner or later it would be put it into a legal obligation.

He is referring to the USB to Micro USB power cable used by the vast majority of cell phones today. He doesn't intend for the power cable to your laptop to be USB, only that the power cables be standardized in a similar fashion to the now universal USB cell charger. I personally would fully support such a move, it would certainly be a driving factor in the choice of my next laptop if one company started that policy.

I agree with "ONE unified USB power supply for mobile computing" but does it have to be USB? Will it charge fast enough? I honestly don't know how well USB might work. Is it the most efficient?
