Just wanted to post this as a seperate idea after seeing it mentioned 3x times as a small in between comment in other ideas: No CD/DVD drive even if a different basis than the xps13 is chosen (which is cd-less as far as I know).
Status Update: The XPS 13 Developer Edition is available with no CD/DVD and you can add an external drive if you wish. Thank you for posting!

Maybe you have slow DVD drives. I see no difference. And I carry a USB stick with an image on it to boot on machines infested with viros so I can XDMCP back to my machine(s). I also carry a DVD with the same image on it for devices which have USB devices blocked. Worst case, I have to rip open the case and nuke the NVRAM settings to clear out this nonsense. If not, can't work from that location. Many businesses have started blocking and or removing 802.11a/b/g/n due to security restrictions. Thats one of the reasons we use 802.11a, few devices have it so it cuts down on those trying to use it. Only one Android phone has it.Additionally I want to test in all situations DVD, USB.
Optical drives are not an option, except for you. Make the bay a DriveBay like the older REAL ThinkPads and then it can be used for an additional battery, or optical drive.

@TuxRaiderPen: The majority of linux users has also switched to usb sticks, as burning cd's/dvd's just takes far too long to test out a distribution.@Everybody, I just got a heart attack when I saw 'saying' rather than 'seeing' in my post :S My english has been seriously deteriorating over the course of the last year, apologies.

No dice... DVD-DL/RW/RAM MultiDrive is REQUIRED.I won't purchase any unit with out one. I need to be able to stick a DVD of an ISO in and boot from it. Don't always use VMWare to play with distros.
DVD-DL/RW/RAM Multidrive is required.

I agree with you - it'd be much better, in this case, to use the space for other stuff. And, you're right, the XPS 13 currently doesn't have one it.
