I find myself many, many times in dark or poorly lit environments having to guess the various keys - would be fantastic to have a backlit keyboard - with backlit individual keys as the best option.
I would actually pay extra for that convenience if the option was available.
This could be done for desktops or notebooks.

Sadly, this is not quite the case. For example, a new line of Dell Inspiron 17R SE's does not have a backlit keyboard option in United Kigdom despite being advertized as having one.May 11, 2012 Comment Link

Backlit for keyboards ease typing in dark places. In cases where there's a blackout, we can still work with the laptop (with a battery in place) without straining the eye to get the job done. I vehemently supported this idea.Apr 13, 2011 Comment Link

ALL laptops should have a COMPULSORY backlit keyboard. Failure to do so should be illegal.Dec 29, 2010 Comment Link

The backlighting on my Alienware is great. It is user configurable. It has multiple color selection. The red is great for working in the astronomy setting or for working in a hotel room late at night and not wanting to turn on a light for fear of disurbing your spouse or toddler! There is no glare on the screen.Dec 15, 2009 Comment Link

Having a button on the keyboard next to the speaker button and that works the same way as volume (for the brightness) would be awesome.Dec 9, 2009 Comment Link
