The XPS and E series notebooks are great, but a move into making 12.1 and 14.1 inch tablet PC convertible notebooks would be fantastic. I can easily see the m1210 and the e1405 being ported to the tablet medium.

    hillsborospartans, I was not talking about the 1330 and 1530. I was talking about the Dell Latitude tablet PC. As for the 1330 and 1530, the Dell circle (on the exterior lid) is black, blue, red, or white, depending on the the color of the rest of the exterior lid. Maybe the 1330 or 1530 models that you seen in Best Buy were not in the black color (exterior lid)? Maybe that is why the Dell circle was not black.

    Dell already offers a Tablet PC: the Latitude XT. If only the Dell circle on the lid was silver instead of black, and if the price were cheaper (its current starting price tag is $2499; it is too much when there are other Tablet PCs with comparable if not better features for much less), I might have purchased it.

    A Tablet PC from Dell would ideally serve users who want to be mobile and prefer the touch screen and digitial notes advantage. The features should be append to and not replace the existing features of dell laptops. A sleek design and one touch media controls will add to the diversity for this laptop. A tablet from Dell that can be used by graduate students or professionals will be hot property and can capture the growing market using Dell's brand name.

    I am currently using an IBM thinkpad t40p with a 1400x1050 screen. I know Lenovo now sells the new thinkpads with even higher resolutions up to 1920 by 1200. This screen that I am looking at right now is the best screen I have ever looked at because of the resolution.

    1280 x 800 would be a bummer. The motion Computing LE1700 (also sold by Dell) is SXGA+ 1400x1050. If the XT isn't at least as good as the LE1700, then there won't be any new Dell for Christmas for me.

    I'm anxiously waiting for the Latitude XT. Other websites list the resolution as 1280x800. This wide-screen fad is really bad for power-users who use their computers for tasks besides watching movies. But besides the wide-screen part, I really would like to see a higher resolution option - ideally 1400x1050.

    I think Dell is right to not jump into the true Tablet PC market, but I agree with the others here that a convertible notebook is far more sellable - it's a notebook PC that has a touch screen and a cool swivel hinge. Bonus! :-) Toshiba seems to have a winning design in their M400:

    That would be a good place to start. Perhaps offer two different convertible tablets, a 12" light weight power efficient model with long run times, and a large display (15.4") power machine for those that want performance - and don't mind swapping out batteries.     In the latests 3 years, the company I work for only buys Dell computers: High-end servers, Desktop computers and lots of laptops. After trying several other brands, it did stick to Dell.

    I "own" a Dell laptop from my company and I'm very happy with it.

    Now, I want to get a convertible personal laptop to my home. I trust Dell, so I'd like to get from them. How come there is no choice?

    What is interesting is that lots of my friends are also looking for convertibles. Two of them already bought from Toshiba. I probably will follow them...

    What I'd like: powerful laptop, ~15" screen, core 2 Duo, 2 GBs,... I'm willing to pay the extra price.
    I am an user that needs fast portables (I use compilers, virtual machines, edit big documents, etc.). In some meetings, the tablet is very useful. At home, with the kids, it is also nice.

    It seems to me that Dell is not taking advantage of its name and of this market.

    Dell is coming out with Tablet PCs here shortly. Mostly for business/education though.
