My suggestion is to write down a "promise" specifying the number of years Dell is going to support the latest Ubuntu version on a given laptop model. Also let customers know the maximum delay in providing an update after an Ubuntu release.

The point is if Dell stops supporting new Ubuntu releases the laptop owner is basically left with a piece of garbage. So I would hope Dell will provide updates for the expected lifetime (4 years?) of the machine, starting the countdown from the *last* unit sold.IMO a maximum delay of one month would be acceptable in supporting the latest Ubuntu version. Of course work should start before the release and some "betas" should be available during the release cycle.

Interesting suggestion. What do you feel would be the appropriate time frames?
