AMD Trinity APU

Promote

AMD Trinity APU might be nice, better battery life and better graphics performance to power higher resolution screen.
Would also bring the price of the laptop down, or increase profit margins for Dell.

(please note this is only suggested for a portable, XPS 13 like laptop)

    I'm sure AMD is looking for a flagship/mainstream product to get their chips into.
    It would be a great idea to have AMD get on board and back this project as well by delivering their latest chips, technology, and drivers for all future updates of the Ubuntu developer program. This would make the platform even more attractive with the knowledge of (great) future hardware updates/support!

    Dell, AMD it's time to get on the phone!

    lemmnelson is correct. Ultrabook is just branding not unlike Centrino. Nobody cares if their computer has an "Ultrabook" moniker- they care only that their PC is portable, does it's job, and isn't rear-end-ugly.

    The only thing preventing manufacturers from producing AMD builds with Ultrabook specs is the Intel Ultrabook fund, in which Intel offers incentives that no PC manufacturer in their right mind would turn down. Intel yet again uses it's assets in a way that AMD cannot. But this fund will eventually run out, hopefully sooner rather than later.

    I'm pretty sure that unless Intel owns a patent on thin and light laptops then Dell and AMD would have nothing to worry about. I gather that the general consensus here is that the XPS 13 does not cut it, therefore new hardware is required. There is nothing to stop Dell building a laptop in likeness of the XPS 13 using AMD as long as they don't market it as an ultrabook.

    I'm pretty sure that the name "Ultrabook", which is owned by Intel, can only be used with Intel-based laptops that pass their certification. I would guess that the deal goes deeper than that and that we are unlikely to see any ultrabook-like laptop with AMD on it very soon.
