Know what feature every Alienware laptop needs? A docking solution a la business laptops. Port on the bottom. just toss it into a dock (design an angled one with fans to help airflow when docked), and the dock should have a USB 3 hub, HDMI, audio ports, and the such. So when it's docked, every peripheral like mouse, keyboard, speakers, and monitor all come on at once. The way I have it is a cooling pad with a charger, a 3.5mm audio cable, an HDMI cable, and a USB 3 cable that goes to a hub that runs a hard drive, mouse, and keyboard. It's not the greatest setup with 4 cables sticking out of both sides of my laptop, and I think a docking solution would be INCREDIBLE for gamers who use their Alienware laptops as desktops like me.

An Alienware docking station would go perfectly with an Alienware ultrabook. The release of an ultrabook would be the perfect time to begin adapting the undercarriages across the line for any 14 inch model or smaller.Jun 14, 2012 Comment Link

To add to the original idea: now that Thunderbolt is out there, consider making a generic Thunderbolt docking station. It's much easier to setup and can accommodate a DVI screen + several peripherals.Think about it: ANY computer with a Thunderbolt port would have a docking station. No need for a fancy docking port underneath.

Considering our Alieware laptops are closer to Desktop Replacements than laptops, save the M11x, I think this would be a great idea. Alot of people buy Alienware laptops in leiu of getting a full size desktop due to portability and size. But a docking station wouldn't equate to anywhere near the size of a typical gaming desktop so this would be a great idea for the next Alienware models!Jun 12, 2012 Comment Link

I love this idea! I use my M14x as a desktop frequently, and the current setup has something like five cords/dongles coming out of it (speakers, cooling pad USB cable, HDMI, mouse USB dongle, keyboard USB dongle). I'd love to just have one thing to plug in and out!
