I think these are realistic goals. The pricing has low priority to me, I am willing to pay an appropriate amount for a high quality device.

  • Higher vertical resolution: 900 pixels or more. It makes text/code editing much more comfortable.
  • IPS panel would be nice to have, for having good color quality and acceptable viewing angles(features most laptops lack the most)
  • Ivy Bridge i5 or i7 CPU
  • More than 4 GB of RAM please.
  • Good warranty time (2+ years)

The CPU part of Ivy Bridge is not really faster (only marginally in benchmarks) than Sandy Bridge, but the GPU is much more powerful, and as a whole it consumes less power.  I personally only care about the lower power, I forgot to include battery life in the list.

For the screen size, 1400x900 would be about the maximum I could tolerate on such a small screen, but I strongly +1 the idea of more RAM.

Is the ivy bridge lower power, or just faster? I'm find giving up a little speed if it means getting 6 hours per charge instead of 4 hours.

I believe the warranty options are available already when you order, up to 3 years. Doubtful they'll up it to 2 years included in the price.

Agreed, especially about the price -- if it's a tool for work, it will earn for itself anyways.
