I'm looking for a powerful 12inch Laptop with a good graphics card since months. The Alienware M11 offers all what I want. Unfortunately it has a huge downside: The display is glossy. There is no option for a matte display.

However I really need a non-glare display because I would like to use the M11 outdoors or in the train. glossy displays are horrible in these locations.

Customers who are looking for a subnotebook would like to use it mainly on the way and therefore need a matte display.

Furthermore so many people complain about glossy displays. It would be great if Dell could make a step ahead and release a version of the M11 with a non-glare display. Then I could buy the Alienware M11 finally.

Francisco, as far as I know the screen on the M11x is already matte with a glossy layer on top of it (at least, the M14x is like that). Are we seriously getting a matte screen, with a glossy layer on top of it, and then you're asking us to buy a matte cover?

If yes, I don't even know an adjective to qualify this.

I do hear your concern and we continue to work on making our notebooks better based on your feedback; in the mean time we do offer anti-glare screen protector option for that notebook that is self addhesive and great quality.

An addendum: the 11.6 inch Macbook Air has an absolutely gorgeous screen, and according to notebookreview.com forums it can even be swapped into an M11x.

So, why doesn't Dell procure such screens from the same supplier as Apple? Did Apple force an exclusivity clause?

I subscribe to this. The poor screen, as documented by many reviews (example: notebookcheck.net), is what keeps me from buying an M11x right now.

    @ AndrewL,

Thanks for bringing this topic up; your direct feedback is appreciated.

As part of our Alienware product planning, I can tell you that Alienware team is continuing to look into the option of offering non-glossy displays across all our notebooks, but nothing is final as of yet.

Until then, we do have a solution that may work for you if you are still looking at the M11x. We do offer an option anti-glare screen protector option for that notebook.

This option is self-adhesive film that can be applied (and later removed if you so choose) to the LCD panel of any model Alienware M11x. It is die-cut from the original engineering specifications to cover the LCD's edge-to-edge glass with openings for the web cam and array microphones.

Looking at the current online configurator options you can find the anti-glare option in the ‘Gear Store’ module on the ‘Personalize’ Tab. It will ship separately from the system and you'll have to apply it, but it's a simple process. It's very much like applying a protective film to your cell phone or tablet.

For gamers out there who may stumble upon this, but have already purchased their system, the option is also available on in our Electronics and Accessories store off of dell.com. You can find a link to the option easily by searching for "M11x Screen Protector".

I haven't researched similar offerings from third parties, but I am sure they exist as an alternative to the Alienware Gear Store offering.

Thanks again for your post, please let me know if you have any other questions or feedback.

Agree too but extend this to all the Alienware Desktop Replacements... At least give the buyer the option to decide if it want a glare/glossy screen or a matte one... Many people (According to a small research among my university students I believe it's a majority) would preffer the option of a matter screen.
I have found that there are many people that even have dissasembled (or 'cut') the bright screen cover to reveal a matte screen behind... (something that coulod avoid the all mighty warranty).
For adult people 30+, which I even ask, the glossy screen is even painfull (and it can get worse in time).
So, why not start 'listening' to the consumers? It's the most simply way to recover prefference among buyers... Simply research the market... listening to the market... and then offer options to cover more of it...
