Many people are using laptops at home with AC adapters plugged in, which in particular situations is not good for the battery health. I found the 'disable battery charging' option in Battery meter very useful to preserve my battery. However, you need to turn on the computer to select it, and it resets after restarting windows as well. What I suggest here is a physical switch for the laptop that controls battery charging Enabled or Disabled (exactly like the wireless switch on most laptops). This should help you to control your battery charging without any software at any time even with a laptop turned off.

Well, the idea was more to give an option for those who want to have better contron on their battery charging. Manual control for those who know what they are doing would be better than software (the switch may not be very noticeable - just for those who need it).
Otherwise, forgetting the switch would mean just leave it Enabled all the time and let the software do the control as you said (and I agree this should be good for many users).
So this is just an extra option - not the alternative for software control.

If you forgot to use the switch, and the computer battery became depleted, your next suggestion would be to develop a method by which software would automatically control battery charging...just like Dell has today.expatinasia

Why they can't sell batteries if they do that my good man. It's not about Long Term anything with this company I have come to realize. Turn'em and burn'em.
