We need a similar option for AMD graphics in Vostro 3450. It's been used in HP and Lenovo laptops for quite a while now. Check this out, for example:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-Using-only-discrete-GPU-or-Intergrated-GPU-Optimus/ta-p/560579
Or this: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/11203iACFFB494F5436F2F/image-size/original?v=mpbl-1&px=-1
Please unlock this option in Vostro 3450 with the next BIOS update. This will allow to use the dedicated graphics card PROPERLY on Linux and Windows XP. At the moment we are limited to very unstable Catalyst Control Center-based switching that either causes BSODs or doesn't work at all with some apps if set to automatic mode. It causes FPS problems too in some cases. Disabling this switchable scheme altogether would resolve them all.

Thanks!

So... It's been almost 2 months now since I posted this, and more than a year since I bought this laptop. Dell released a new BIOS update for Vostro 3450 today which, sadly, doesn't address this problem at all.
I will get rid of this laptop and buy an HP. Because they just seem to care more.
