Dell, I've been a fan of Alienware ever since I saw the original M15X with the Ripley lid and another lid type that I forget the name of. I've been wanting one of these machines ever since, but I haven't been able to afford one. I'm now 20 years old, and since you have bought Alienware, they've gained access to your resources and in turn lowered their prices a bit. This allowed me to finally purchase one.
I do have to say though, after having my M14X for a few months now, I will never go back to using another brand of computers. This laptop is truly satisfying to the gamer-on-the-go. I didn't upgrade to the quad core I7, nor did I get the 900p screen (looking into upgrading it soon). With that said, this laptop has truly amazed me in performance and portability. I used to have a 15" HP Pavilion I used for gaming and it was heavy. What didn't make sense to me was that it was 'thinner' than my M14X, yet heavier and less powerful. You crammed this power in a 14" beast and it has impressed me greatly. But I do have a complaint/idea/opportunity.
Like me, many Alienware fans who buy the laptops miss the M15X. I read that the M15X (before it was discontinued to bring the M14X) was fully GPU upgradeable, as opposed to the M14X not being GPU upgradeable. The M15X would also be big enough to cram a 1080p screen into, something some gamers like to have even in a 15" laptop, so screen options could range from 768p, to 900p to 1080p. More quality screens with a wider range of colors would also justify the price of the laptop even more - also offer matte and glossy choices, rather than jusy glossy.
In all honesty, I do not see the 'why' in changing from the M15X to the M14X. If I had a say-so in what builds you put out in Alienware, I would make a 13" model, a 15" model and the 17" model (dropping the 18"). In the 17" model, give it back the crossfire/sli support and make it the beast machine of your line-up again.
I also believe a new design on the laptop cases would be appropriate should you choose to go for another line-up in a next 'revision'. This design is beautiful, yes, but something a tad thinner and less bulky would appeal to a wider range of laptop users. Technology is getting thinner and thinner in the computer area and I think Alienware should keep up with it. It would bring more business should you appeal to the people who like the thinner laptops. I personally do not mind the bulkyness, but It's a bit odd when I'm around my friends with their Macbooks doing design like I do on my M14X and they have a simple design in an aluminum case that looks beautiful. I wish Alienware would make something thing, aluminum body to help with cooling yet shove the signature AlienFX lighting in there. I'd buy it.
Thank you for reviewing this, and I hope this eventually get's implemented.

I agree when it comes to the design of ALIENWARE laptops. They are too bulky and are overdesigned.
A more subtle "stealth design", as you call it, would be easier for other consumers than gamers to accept.
The optimal ALIENWARE laptop for me would be an ALIENWARE that borrowed a lot from the Razer Blade, but had customizable keyboard LEDs, better cooling with cooling grills on the back and a 1080p, 120Hz screen with at least 90% RGB spectre score. Ditch the optical drive in favor of more space for cooling and a bigger battery.
Also: don't overcomplicate the BIOS. Make it as minimalistic as possible.

I agree yes this is a no brainer! I have the m17x and the m18x but to be truthful I am looking at a clevo 15 inch as my next purchase. If Alienware had the m15x I may change my mind. Also after having both alienwares I am getting a little stale on the looks. I just ordered a latitude 14 inch and I would prefer aluminum or carbon fibre as the case but drop the alienware lights in the front. Just have AW as the logo on the lid that is lit in different colors and of course the Keyboard. I think this will appeal to more buyers as well. The construction must remain the best of all laptops. Solid feeling and no give or creaks. I am just bored of the alien head on the lid and the big grilles in front. I would like it to look more stealth and military myself. I lugged the 18 inch to Argentina with me, so that is why I bought the latitude to have a more travel friendly case but the m15x would be perfect since I have a 30 inch dell monitor also. To recap, more stealth look, AW replaces alien head on the outside of the lid, carbon fibre, or soft touch or aluminum exterior. Cooling and fans must be the best. To be honest an alienware costs 1,000 more then a clevo so it better be way higher quality in looks and consruction. Again I am bored with the look so that alone may make me change to another despite my multiple Dell purchases.Oct 24, 2012 Comment Link

There are quite a few categories to fit in using icons rather than text. Either the page would be very long or the icons very small. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean Stigtrix.Oct 24, 2012 Comment Link

Maybe it would be easier if you introduced an icon based UI for topic selection when browsing categories, and then have the options: sort by newest, oldest, specific hardware etc. .

You see, that's a bit of an issue with Ideastorm. If you do not get lots of votes before your idea leaves the "Recent Ideas" section on the main webpage, it's hard to get your idea noticed.Sep 12, 2012 Comment Link
