For whatever reason Dell has taken it upon it's self to include unoffensive every day words in it's naughty words list. As I don't find these words offensive I'm often left bewildered and bemused as to which word it is that Dell are taking offense to.
To minimize frustration please highlight the "offensive" word or phrase when a post is rejected.

Yeah it's very annoying. Completly insane way to reach out to a community. Stop them expressing themselves. Way to go Dell!?!Have I ever mentioned that even the mormons that run Utah allow people to use the word assertion?

I was steaming mad when my post got rejected for being offensive. Thought of all different reasons why and just couldn't figure it out. No way was I swearing or anything. Even after the two emails to them and very quick response emails back to me. Still not knowing why. Just that I was offensive I ended up here and here was the simple answer I was looking for to sooth me. I said " I will s_ck up the vista price." If I would have known that word was the offense.I would have just changed it.

Sometimes kids know new ways to use the bad words that we didn't know about either. :)Nov 8, 2008 Comment Link

@jervis961 regarding children: They usually already know all bad words even without the need to peek over your shoulders while you are reading ideastorm :-)Nov 5, 2008 Comment Link

RE: "OFFENSIVE WORDS" - should be”…WORD PATTERNS”?: OK... Now, I am pretty much thoroughly disgusted by what seems to be the case with Dell IdeaStorm and what I thought was likely a puritanical and/or Victorian censorship attitude.
As it turns out, it seems far worse than that, if my experiences are valid. I'm not gonna bother verifying this, because after making multiple changes in the "Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser" idea, I believe that I'm right... if not, well... everyone makes mistakes. It seems based on: 1. being blocked, 2. my editing multiple times and 3. eventually seeing 'Success" re posting, that actual words are not the sole issue here. Even patterns embedded within words seem enough to block posts in a time-wasting, counter-productive and breathtakingly inane way.
My "offensive words" seemed to contain the pattern for an alternate way to describe the donkey - that is: "a-s-s", and these terrible words included such atrocities as "a-s-sertion" and "a-s-sume" - GASP! ;-O
Does that also mean that (a-s-suming the prefix "a-s-s" for the following): -ault, (as in "a-s-ault"), -emble, -embly, -ert, -ess, -et, - ign, -ignment, -ist, -istance, -ociate, -orted, -urance and -ure are equally "offensive" to Dell censors? Note that all words came out of Webster's New World Children's Dictionary (1997).
If I'm right about either or both the above paragraphs - and I really hope I'm not - the Dell employee responsible should be turfed, IMHO. One can only speculate how many staff-hours have been accumulated by Dell IdeaStrom users trying to figure out what was "offensive" in text containing some of these common words. And how many people just gave up trying to put in an idea or comment on one. And to what conceivable benefit? Is it truly possible that someone - even at Dell - at Dell is "offended" at seeing "a-s-sertion" properly written The mind truly boggles! One wonders if other patterns exist.
Please Dell fix this (a-s-suming my comment is valid.)

Lets see if I can figure out something here...The following words are allowed: God, Heaven, Angel, Devil, Bless, Amen and heck.
They allow us to post where God resides and allow us to post about the devil but not mention where he lives.
Does this make sense to anyone? I'm not asking for the other words to be taken out but just as the "H" word offends some, perhaps "God" offends non believers. I believe in God and do not think he is going to take off many points for language on judgement day. He may take off more points for those who tried to oppress others though. :D

Don't forget that some adults have children looking over their shoulder while they look at the site. They might see a bad word they have already heard on TV, Radio, Movies or in CHURCH.
