It's abundantly clear that governments nationwide are in financial trouble.

Dell could help by taking a leadership position in forming a foundation to help Government and public education at all levels move to less costly Open Source systems.

Here is an example of a project underway:

The work to upgrade PTS is part of a larger plan to standardize on the open-source and less expensive Linux operating system, said John Byrne, manager of application development and head of USPS’ Integrated Business Solutions Centers.

The desktop was largely neglected and at the same time there were changes afoot in the core infrastructure of Linux at the kernel level that meant we were confident we could surprise people at how easy [it was] to install and use the desktop if someone was focused on it."

    Perhaps Dell simply needs a more aggressive services arm!
