Take linux to a new level and support Gobuntu!

"Gobuntu is a GNU/Linux operating system, derived from Ubuntu, that endeavors to adhere to the Free Software Foundations four freedoms and intends to provide a base for other free software platforms to build upon with minimal modification required. It does this by only including open-source non-restricted software. This means there will be no firmware, drivers, applications, or content included in Gobuntu that does not include the full source or whose license does not provide the right to use, study, modify, and redistribute the body of work."

This means offering Gobuntu pre-installed and fully compatible with at least one laptop and one desktop as well as compatible with at least one printer.

After adding support for Ubuntu, Gobuntu should be very easy to offer.

Offer a system that fully respects the freedom of its users. Use a free BIOS (such as coreboot- http://www.coreboot.org), a completely free operating system- Ubuntu is great, but it still contains proprietary software. Instead, use Gobuntu, a Canonical-sponsored Ubuntu derivative, if you have some sort of agreement with Canonical, or even better, the FSF-sponsored gNewSense distribution. You should partner with the FSF is such an endeavor- I'm sure the would be happy to support any company that is trying to free computer users be offering a computer that truly respects freedom and openness. Dell, this is a call to you to allow us to use software that does not force us to bind ourselves into EULAs, to use software that we can examine, and modify, and share, and improve, to use software that supports freedom and collaboration, rather than profit and restriction. Right now, It is nearly impossible to get a computer like this, except by building it yourself. If such a computer were available from Dell, I would certainly purchase it the next time a need a computer, and I'm sure many other free software users would agree with me.

Sorry but I don't think Dell should waste its resources on something of interest to such a tiny fraction of the market. If I were a Dell product manager, I'd file this under "Would Be Nice for >1% Market Share." Why not just build your own PCs if you're so into it? Why ask Dell to do it? Who cares? I'm all for selling Linux on Dells, but this is a waste of time.

Actually, I convert my Itunes music to an un-drmed file type so I can play it on any player. You still need to Google. Question is, are you using the right words in your searches?

office software is easy that isnt a issue the normal user is more worried about legal codecs for video and audio since most media is not in a opensource format enhanced stable 3d graphics and other such things i would rather have user friendly linux systems then gimped opensource boxs maybe it could happen by 2010 with amd making ati opensource but still media formats have us stuck
