As high-end gaming systems, Alienware notebooks need to come with an option for a better display, just as it was possible to get the M17x R2 with the marvellous 1200p RGB screen.
A high-quality screen with a high color gamut is desired by many AW users, it's not only the CPU and GPU options that define a top class notebook, the screen is crucial as well.
Also as already demanded for several other Dell models, bring back the 16:10 display ratio, it's much better to work with and leaves less unused space on the top and bottom of the screen.
To make the AW systems more attractive it's necessary to offer it with better display options and higher resolution screens, such as 2880x1800 RGB LED. Preferably with 3d support as such screens come with higher brightness and display refresh rate.
Instead of the current choice between a 1600x900 and a 1920x1080 screen for the bigger AW systems it should be possible to choose between 1200p and 1800p.

Nobody wants high resolution displays any more. Must be why retina displays are so unpopular, LOL. (Of course, I am being sarcastic.)BJFox
I consider 1080p to the be entry level and lowest acceptable resolution rather than an upgrade.

That is the whole point, David. 16:10 was taken away and it had nothing to do with anyone who actually used their systems for work or gaming. Dell should be a leader and bring it back.Mar 8, 2012 Comment Link

Thanks everyone for your feedback.Unfortunately, 16:10 aspect ratio displays are becoming less and less common, especially in the laptop panel space.
As far as higher resolution and RGB displays, I will pass this info on to our planners. As of today though, this is not planned.

OLED might become a good technology in the future, but in the moment it is too expensive. Its manufacturing costs is about by +20% only, but its life time is five times shorter compared to the standard WLED displays. The RGBLED displays on the other side are running twice so long as WLED displays.Mar 7, 2012 Comment Link

Or even better: OLED. RBB LED simply isn't made for gaming. The response time is simply too slow.StigtriX
OLED in comparison to RGB LED: Faster response time, better and more vivid colours, wider viewing angles, better brightness and less mass.

I've seen the other post here regarding business notebooks... I created this one because not only because really want to see higher resolutions than 1080p/1200p, but also RGB panels! If you've ever seen the RGB panel of the R2 you know why... it's amazing compared to a regular display. Also @Dell... there are now tablets with 1080p resolution and Samsung is coming up with a 4.8 inch FullHD display. I think it's high time that something changes regarding notebook displays.

I see no reason why this request and the business request shouldn't be joined under a single idea requesting both the return of the 16:10 aspect ratio and Higher Resolutions (1920x1200 is a step backwards honestly, and it's time to go bigger)It shouldn't just be for high end notebooks or just for business class notebooks. it should be across the board. I'm on a Dell XPS m1530 with a 1920x1200 LG monitor, and i can tell you right now, i will NEVER go to 16:9 on a laptop unless the resolution was 2048x1152 or higher.

I do fully agree with all the comments so far. The M17x R2 had the best display in the past, so there's a need to give the new products even better ones!I want to buy a M18x. The model from last year didn't met my expactation in serval ways. I'm still waiting for a version which comes with a highend GeForce SLI + 16:10 aspect ratio 200 Hz RGBLED display with an resolution of 2880 x 1800.

Thanks for bringing this up SVL7."I own an M17x R2 with a 1200p RGB display and it is the best screen I have ever come across. I would be hesitant to buy another laptop that didn't have such a nice display.
Please hear this Alienware! Your customers want High Resolutions ( greater than 1200p), 16:10 aspect ratio and RGB colour. Make it happen!"
My thoughts exactly as i owned a M17x R2 with RGB 1200P and through exchange got a M18x as warranty replacement and the screen is of a much lower quality. Customers may want a cost effective solution but those who invested as much as a cheap car demand a higher quality option than currently offered. Why does XPS get such a higher quality screen easily they could offer similar on these top model laptops as they are sold as "Desktop Replacement" and thats what i expected. The 1080P from 1200P was a big jump for me and i see a clear difference. the LED quality and gamut, contrast are washed out and lacking color over its RGB counter part and was very disapointed for my Photoghraphy is effectd by this obvious difference. I should see 1800P as an option as mentioned... we are willing to pay for what we get and not giving us the opion has lost you more in one generation than you think. Pease bring back quality to the Alienware name... youve got top notch hardware mared by this Samsung WLED of yester year :(
