Make USB 3.0 Standard!

Dell, be on the cutting edge and include USB 3.0 Ports on desktops and laptops, at least for premium models including Alienware, Adamo, Studio, Studio XPS, Precision and Latitude series.

Anything we buy this year will be completely obselete when USB 3.0 products start launching in mass quantity. The only thing holding me back from buying a $6000 Precision M6500 is the fact that it's only got USB 2.0 connectivity (and eSATA/6-pin 1394a).

It's this simple - I will not buy another laptop from any manufacturer until it incorporates USB 3.0. If Apple does it first, I'll get a Mac. We DON'T need to wait until Intel and Microsoft officially support it. Asus and Gigabyte have already jumped on the bandwagon.

Currently USB 3.0 is available across our Precision mobile workstation line, and most of our other systems as well. Unfortunately I cannot speak to products not yet released, but as the chipsets used evolve into native support for USB 3.0, you should see more universal availability of this option.

Not going to happen at least for the next few months. It's not that they are being elitist but the fact that not many people need USB 3.0 right now and to keep costs down, the cheaper laptops won't have it.

    Totally agree!

Except that USB 3.0 should be standard across all models, none of this 'premium' model elitism.  Dell has always been the leader in offering the latest tech and widest customisation options; there is no need to leave the trusty Inspiron behind (I've had this one for seven years!).

Dell... the new Inspiron 15 seems to have almost everything (now that the headphone jacks are no longer on the front, and the horrible shiny palmrest and hopefully the shiny screen bezel are gone too!) with the latest Intel i core processors...

...give us USB 3.0 ports and I would buy one tomorrow!

(It wouldn't hurt if there was a green colour case option also...)

(And it REALLY wouldn't hurt if it had a slot-loading optical drive...)

    Thanks!

If only I could vote you up more than once!  Even if it's not supported by intel's chipsets, that doesn't mean it can't be added to the motherboard.  Make it happen, Dell.

I replied on your other idea too, there will be no manufacturers releasing notebooks in Q1 2010 with native USB 3.0 support, so it's not really Dell's fault. As I said before, it is unfeasible and unrealistic to expect them anytime soon since Intel has not supported native USB 3.0 in any of its newest chipsets hence you will not see it in any computer other than in certain desktop motherboards where the manufacturers have installed a separate controller for USB 3.0.

    Expatinasia downgrades everything it seems.

I did promote it, but I don't see USB 3.0 being completely necessary for at least a decade if not more.  Just about every computer on the market needs USB 2.0 right now, and products are going to continue to have to be USB 2.0 and even USB 1.1 compliant for quite a number of years.

You seem to be one of few that actually needs USB 3.0 right now.

Or were you hoping for a legacy Serial port instead?

Expatinasia - do you actually have a reason to demote this idea? Why wouldn't you wan't what will be THE standard in the near future to be included NOW in premium Dell products?

The implementation cost would probably be about $30.
