Last night I spent an hour on the phone to find the correct cable for connecting my year old xps 15 laptop to my new u2412m monitor. I was transfered twice before getting a sales person who was completely incompetant. Even tried to hang up on him. Made the mistake of giving him my phone number. He called me back thinking the call had been cut off. Eventually I was transferred yet again to someone else who stumbled across a cable that would work.
This should have been a web page that take the model number of the two devices that need to be connected and then makes recommendation for you. This should have taken me less than 5 minutes to do this.

Hi BRIANINVA,I think if you made your way to any online forum, they'd be able to answer your question fairly promptly. There are plenty of people, myself included, who could fairly quickly tell you what you need. I'm not an IT support person, just familiar with computers and monitors, and what connection types they have.
After a quick look at the specifications of the xps15 and the u2412m monitor, I'd recommend a mini-displayport to displayport cable. The mini displayport end of the cable connects to the xps15 and the (normal size) displayport end connects to the monitor. It's a shame the monitor doesn't have hdmi, as that would be a handy cable to have around, since most modern TV's, dvd players etc use hdmi as well.

Sorry to hear you had such troubles finding the correct cable. What exactly did you finally get?
