Alienware m14utx, Latitude, and XPS Notebooks Featuring AMD Trinity and Dual Graphics

AMD has already publicly demonstrated the new Trinity core APU and it appears to be an excellent performer. I doubt anyone will argue that there is definite demand for thinner notebooks with improved 3D capabilities. I personally am going to be purchasing a Trinity-based notebook and would definitely prefer it to be in the form of a thinner 14" Alienware, XPS, or Latitude. I also work at a desktop support company and have many contacts within the game development community here in Austin. So Dell has the potential to gain from my recommendations if they decide to produce what I'm suggesting.

And I'm proposing this with the requirement that Dell offers virtually identical configuration options that they afford their Intel laptops. I can't begin to describe the frustation when I attempt to configure one of the few AMD laptops currently offered by dell: only one or two processor options (no option for A8), no option for dual graphics, and no option for 3-year warranty. If Dell is going to do this, then it might as well not bother even offering an AMD option.

Also, while am impressed with Dell's new ultrabook, lets also see a version with AMD's 17-watt Trinity, which will undoubtedly be less expensive and have superior graphics.

Thank you!

If Dell does indeed opt to offer some better AMD kit, please don't hide it from your customers. Currently, users can pick models by processor type, but AMD isn't even an option- even though the AMD-powered Vostro is available if you scroll down the page just a bit. With all the Intel branding screaming at you with every click, you'd think that Dell would have at least a *little* more AMD branding and information on the site. The attached graphics are just a small example of what I'm referring to.

No option to search for AMD kit.

But wait! Hidden, down the page tucked in the corner...

To elaborate: I envision the Alienware m14utx as having the same width and depth as the m14x, but with the thickness of the m11x. I'm certain this can be achieved given the how thin Dell's ultrabook is.

Thank you for your idea submission. Dell constantly evaluates both AMD and Intel CPU offerings. I think we need to put this idea Under Review and get it over to the platform planners and technology strategists. I'll ask Cy to change the status.

Generally I support your idea. Mainly I am interested in ultrabook -like (ultrathin) systems from 11 to 14" which feature an 17W (or greater) Trinity APU. This would be my dream come true! The reasons are:

-Better graphics than Intel has, support openCL and better drivers
-DP-like port, 'Lightning bolt' which makes all the connections go through 1 cable only!
    -Possibly lower system price

My preferences would be for it to have a variant which has TPM and a modest weight. The 'thin' factor doesnt really count for me, e.g. I would prefer a faster, cleaper 21mm laptop above an 18mm one.

I think many people do not even know Vostro 3555 exist. Fortunatelly HP doing great job, announced AMD Trinity almost in all their categories; G series, M series, Envy series, Sleekbooks, and in Probooks. Apple also planning Trinity Macbook air :).

Here it is- the competition, with Trinity inside. I *know* Dell can make a better product, but will it? Are we going to see some real choice finally?

    The competition.

    Good idea!

Win7dev; I believe you Intel has faster CPU, but you won’t see that difference other than benchmarks. While 35W(CPU+GPU) instead of 45W(CPU)+30-60W(GPU) makes big difference to our environment, so try to think green and save our planet!

No, no, and no. Intel works better with nvidia and amd doesn't go with performance laptops.

    cabbage31:
I would recommend the 17W and 25W trinity for XPS 13 Ultrathin and the 35W Trinity for all regular sized 11-14" laptops. For 15-17" laptops Intel cpu + discrete graphics is the best.

I hope XPS 13 ultrabook will be replaced with XPS 13 Ultrathin with 35W Trinity inside for causal gaming. XPS is for gaming, yes?

According to the below benchmark; an A6 Llano have better visual performance than the strongest Ivy Bridge:

Ivy Bridge IGP vs AMD Llano IGP

What will do an A10 Trinity?

I really like your idea, nothing could be better than a Trinity based fully featured thin Latitude. However there were already posted many similar ideas during the years:

and we got only a big Vostro 3555. It is better than nothing, but a 35W APU could work flawlessly in a Latitude E6320 or in a Vostro V131 (even thinner body) without heating and making too much noise.
