1080p on 17inch screens

why oh why is a 1080p resolution screen not offered on 17inch laptop screens? it is offered on some 15inch but not on 17...surely this is the wrong way around? i have rang and asked for this many times but im always told we have no information...dell really do not give anything away which doesnt feel me with confidence in the company

    hi. i was mainly referring to the xps17 as that happened to be the model i was looking at. My understanding is that the 17" panels are the same throughout the various models so maybe it should be an option on all? (i know for instance that at some point it was offered on the studio 17" as the UK website still shows quotes from a happy customer with his 1080p screen on his studio 17" notebook!)
    if you can get me an idea on when it will be available in the UK it would be most appreciated so i have something to work towards (and hopefully not having to wait too long)

    @nmid So you are ok with Partially Implemented? If you meant just the XPS 17 from the get-go, let me know, and I can edit your idea title to reflect just that system and change it to Implemented. I will track down the UK release date and post back. TBH, we have a US date in mind, but I need to get clarification on whether we can publicly talk about the date yet. The same may apply to the UK. I hope I can give you something better than "coming soon."

    Bill, I am SOOOOO excited about the CES show and Dell unveiling of new products there.  Oh, I hope that down the road we can have an affordable option to upgrade our screens or graphics to enjoy the full HD experience.  Down the road for me though means two to three years away....

    Again, I am very excited to see Dell in the spotlight and am reading the postings from Endgaget and Cnet from CES 2011. 

    Thank you and the folks at Dell for listening to our suggestions.   Now I want to see Dell establish a retail "boutique" in high traffic malls to compete with Sony and Apple.  It would be awesome to walk into a store and discuss products, seek answers and help with problems and get training.  I would be thrilled to pay for "solution sessions" and classes just like Apple offers.

    Thanks for the reply Bill. i personally was referring to the XPS17 but i think it should be available as an option on all. This seems a positive response although it would be good to know when this will be available in the UK as im planning on making a purchase fairly soon

    Thanks for your comment, gil. Have a look at Lionel's post from CES. I am marking this one as Partially implemented, working under the assumption that the OP means all 17" laptops should have HD options. We just announced 1920x1080 on XPS 17 at CES.

    But at the very least, the XPS line and Alienware should have an easy option or ability to upgrade to that full HD display.  And let's also look down the road at 3D HD displays for XPS and Alienware!

    Thanks for your idea. Do you have a specific 17" model in mind, or are you saying any 17"-er we offer, in general, should have higher screen resolution options? I could mark this one as Under Review, because we have this idea (from another poster) in the review process now for the XPS line.
