This has probably be mentioned before but this place is relavent for it:
Dell Website Shop/Dell Outlet Shop coupon points for trade in Old Dell systems. The number of points should depend on the age of the system and also the condition.
An online chart should be made available telling you the approximate value of the system, this should be updated regularly. As Dells can be heavily customised, inputting the Service Tag might be used for a more detailed estimated. An additional checkbox/field can be put in for heavily scratched/broken systems.
For extremely old systems the coupon value for recycling can be quite small but would serve as an incentive for computers/electronics to be recycled properly and for users to purchase from Dell second time round.
If the above goes well you could maybe do this for non-Dell components including the following: TVs, Phones, Desktops, Laptops, Keyboards, Tablets, Printers and Scanners. Not too sure if that would be of much benefit but it might bring in some more customers. Naturally give a better discount of equivalent value to Dell systems than non-Dell systems as a loyality bonus.
Once Dell purchases the system; Dell can cannibalise it for the parts for sale on the Dell Outlet shop or sell it as a complete second hand system.

I agree. Three of our laptops are discontinued - two coming up to four years, whilst the third is closer to six years old...Hyncharas
I think there should be a general tally of points depending on the age of a system, with desktops having more allocated to them over laptops due to the viability of upgrading, once Dell's warranty has expired.
As an additional improvement to the replacement process, however; when people can't afford to purchase a new machine, Dell should provide customers the ability to crossgrade those components with hardware they still use, in case a new operating system they have isn't compatible. Some drivers for parts on discontinued systems don't even exist or have been mothballed along with the machines themselves, such as SigmaTel audio cards that I own. I find this quite annoying as other models of this are being built while none of their drivers work with it. But, by recalling these components for replacement with something like a Soundblaster card would extend the longevity of the system, so they'd still have a completely working machine until they could afford to purchase a new one.

I like this idea! I doubt Dell could implement it for non-Dell systems, but at least for Dell systems it would be very nice.
