Gizmodo calls the "Dell Mini 9 ... the Ultimate OS X Netbook"
I am typing on this on a 9-inch, 3G-equipped, almost-pocketable computer, running the best consumer OS money can currently buy. It costs around $400. Do you want one too? Here's
how to get yours. ...the
Mini 9 is about as ideal a platform as you'll find for a [OS X] ultraportable...Everything from wi-fi, sound and the function keys down to the optional integrated mobile broadband card and the SD card reader are supported and work as they should. No hardware compromises at all. It's awesome."
This sounds very nice. Some ideas.
- Advertise the heck out of the fact that you make a better hardware platform for OSX than Apple does.
- If Apple won't license it to you, document (in much the same way the linked article did) exactly how your customers can install OSX themselves.
Personally, I won't use it for the same reasons I won't use Windows -- but many people do buy Apple computers becasue Apple's OS is so much better than what most Dells run; and it be nice if you can offer those customers an alternative with better & cheaper hardware.

As the linked article points out, there's no need for Apple to license this to Dell. Dell can simply inform their customers about the same points made in the Gizmodo article -- (1) that Dell hardware makes an excellent OSX platform, and (2) the steps a Dell customer could take to make it happen.Ideally, then Dell would sell more No OS models so Dell/OSX users don't need to pay microsoft taxes.

Now is a much different time though. OS X is gaining popularity with more and more getting fed up with Windows. Who knows, it might work this time, then again if Apple doesn't mandate the hardware specs it could make them look bad if systems do not run correctly.Feb 22, 2009 Comment Link

Apple licensed its OS, almost 15 years ago. A raging success it wasn't. When SJ returned he bought back the licenses, for about $100 million.expatinasia

Of course Dell makes a better Netbook platform for OS X than Apple, because Apple doesn't make a Netbook. I Dell could have offered OS X I would most likely have bought a Dell. Unfortunately Dell can't offer OS X so I bought my MacBook Pro instead. Honestly I would find it hard to live without an Apple multi-touch track pad now that I've used one. Not only are the multi-touch gestures great but the large size of the pad itself is much easier to use than the little pad Dell uses.
