With DELL's new and stricter focus on quality and design, wouldn't it be a wise choice to go for a new and more stylish logo?
The cost won't be too much if the logo is simple, but DELL may need new machines or at least new parts for molding etc.
Why is this a wise thing to do? The current DELL logo is bland and uses a very standard font with one exception; the rotated "E" letter.
It's recognizable, yes, but it's bland. A logo change also generates PR and gives an opportunity for the company to comment upon changes, goals and perhaps a new direction or a new focus.
What I thought about was changing the logo, then commenting upon your focus if asked about the change. I've read countless posts about users who don't want to buy a DELL machine because of something that happened in the Stone Age - this is your opportunity to address them. I've also read biased posts from Apple users and even idiotic posts whith rather extreme claims. Mute them by stating your focus on quality and get it out in social channels and in the media in general.
Just take a look at the comments under the articles and reviews of DELL products to see what I'm on about:

Let's take a look at another company's logo evolution:

The first PEPSI logo is hard to read and looks messy. The next two are onto something, but still lack simplicity. The one from 1940 is really well made, but a bit too inspired by Coca-Cola. It wasn't before 1973 that PEPSI truly had a unique and instantly recognizable logo. You can see that PEPSI went the wrong way and made the logo too complicated after that, something they must have realized when they re-did the logo not too long ago. If you see the PEPSI ball, you know the brand without the need to look at the letters.
DELL had the simple font with the rotated "E", but added a circle in late 2010. I think this was a bad choice. They should have re-done the logo completely and tried to make it more recognizable and simpler.

The idea here is that the letter "D" has inspiration from the old Gothic font, but at the same time it's rotated like the letter "E" and has a more "edgy" look. All the letters in "DELL" can be found in the logo, although they are artistic versions.

What do you think? Do you have a sketch for a new logo?

What users seem to be turned off by:
- Low resolution screens
- Glossy screens with reflection issues
- Bad viewing angles
- Bad color reproduction
- Noise from fans
- Heat
- Low GPU and CPU performance
- Cheap plastic
These issues should be adressed in all new DELL products. The DELL XPS 13, 14 and 15 represent a good start, but on the road to true success, listening to the crowd and doing changes according to the feedback is very important. The "closed" DELL community does in no way represent the masses, and that's the problem. You can't rely on them alone, you need to read comments on review sites and in papers.
