The new Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope GNU/Linux has many great features to make it a significant upgrade from the 8.04.
Some improvements are:
- Much faster boot times due to ext4 file system and other optimizations
- Cleaner graphics and a better notifications mechanism
- Newer Linux Kernel
- Improved Power Management
- Improved cd burner application
- Improved handling of multiple monitors, formerly a sore spot for Linux
- Performance increases across the board
- Better themes and backgrounds
IĀ also suggest that Dell keep with the latest LTSĀ upgrades yearly to remain cutting edge.

love ubuntu. but linux is improving way too rapidly for an oem to keep up with the new versions every 6 months. it should only be once a year updatesMay 13, 2009 Comment Link

I've got Jaunty on mine and it's fantastic. Also improved the look somewhat with Mac4Lin - http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac4lin
