Please stop the glossy display nonsence and provide a non-glare display options for all models. If possible with LED backlight, because it is brighter, thinner and less power consuming. I like the XPS M1330 very much, but the glossy display is a real show stopper...
Btw, the glossy finish of the Vostro 1310 case also seems quite pointless to me.

What about an "intelligent" option?A Snap-in/Snap-out glossy cover that the user can take out (as in the colored lid-covers) when it's a must (as when doing some real work)...
Behind the 'glossy-E2E-cover' in the Alienware M18x the panel/display/screen IS A NON-GLOSSY or ANTI-GLARE... but the GLUED glossy plastic it's so annoying that I'm keeping from pulling the trigger...
Think about what the mayority of consumers are asking for... There are plenty of polls in the www...
a terrestrial alien waiting for some serious considerations and answers... THANKS!

vida-kAll laptops, all screens, everything must have a matte option. That is what we are asking for. I do not want to be limited in what I can or can not purchase because everthing is f reaking glossy. There are lots of people out there like me who plain can not use any glossy screen of any kind because of the head aches we receive when we do so. Why do you think LCD's in the first place had matte coatings? Because it is better then CRT's glare. Glossy is a step backwards in technology and I can not beleive it has so much backing.
This is no where near from a potentially implemented solution. Those vosto laptops are lacking in power and custimizability. There are at least 6 models of dell laptops that I would buy myself but cant because there is no matte option. The XPS line is one of them.

+10 for anti-glare displays. I hope Dell offers an option for LED Anti-Glare display with Dell Latitude 14.1" notebooks. These laptops fit most of my needs, but l cannot buy them because of the glare. Notebooks for businesses, like the Latitude series, are often used by people with glasses, and outside during the day, so glare is a deal breaker. An anti-glare display (with LED for extra battery life) is really important for businesses.Sep 5, 2008 Comment Link

@davidc - point taken. I read this idea as focusing primarily on the anti-glare aspect of the screen since the comments within the post were about the glare and the resolution was only mentioned in the title. It makes sense that the higher resolution are not on these products as they are focused on being lower cost for emerging markets. Please do continue to share your preferred options and we will make sure the product teams are aware. Thanks!Sep 5, 2008 Comment Link

vida_k - call me fussy if you must but I don't call two new fixed option Vostro laptops with what I consider low res WXGA screens as warranting 'partially implemented' status but if you must. However I think you should clarify if the 15'6" in the overview of 15.4" mentioned in the specification area as this is confusing. Still for me and I'm sure a good few more I was expecting hi res to be WSXGA+ or WUXGA, Dell obviously has access to 17" matt WUXGA screens as they are a no cost option for the Precission M6300. I can't see why this option is not more widely available, demand is obviously out there! Live in hope a bit longer I suppose!Aug 29, 2008 Comment Link

Another +10 for NON-glossy screen. I won't tell "stop nonsense with glossy ..." but I'll tell : "Give people choice! " I'm working with PC's since 1997 and now I have problem with sight and last thing I want is disturbing reflections from screen (like reflections from glasses weren't enough?!) ...1 2 3 Next
