Im disappointed by the dell upgrade and parts page. It should list all parts and options of each system for purchase, just because someone doesn't buy something fully spec'd out doesn't mean that they wouldn't want add it later. Dell is losing alot of business to companies like newegg, ebay, amazon, mxmupgrade because either dell doesn't sell it or its way overpriced.

I own a m17xr3 that i have had only a month that has been on the market over 6 months and theres hardly any upgrade options for purchase, all you offer for my system are some hard drives, power brick and cables.

Wheres the options for Ram, Dvd/blu-ray drives, network/wifi cards, GPU cards, LCD displays, CPU's, thermal compounds, i mean I and alot of people buy alienware laptops because of there upgrade ability yet we have to look else where for parts. I just feel if the parts are there to be configured on new machines that it should be available to current owners. I heard from few people you can call dell and order parts by part number like the gtx580m, but it sure would be nice to just be able to see them click and buy from the website, especially since i hate calling dell and talking to someone with a heavy accent.

So how about helping out loyal customers with a better parts store at reasonable prices, thanks

    The pricing is horendous.

    XPS8300:

    $200 for a 1 TB Internal Hard Drive vs $67 for most likely the same hard drive in amazon. (I bought my second hard drive from amazon), made sure it was HDS721010CLA332
     like the first one.

    Memory $350 for 8 GB vs $54 Crucial. Ripped off even more in the UK at £415.

    I would like to support Dell by buying parts from them but theres a difference between supporting Dell and being completely ripped off by them.

    @Ovittl1490,

    Right out the gate let me say, Thank You for this post. We do work hard here at Alienware to ensure that we have the latest offerings and upgrades available to our customers. What we don't do well, at times, is make those upgrades easy to find (as you pointed out above).

    I'm happy to say that we are actively engaged in a project to correct this. The project has two components.

    First, Dell has completely revamped the content and functionality found at the Parts and Upgrades link off of support.dell.com. (The site can also be found via http://www.dell.com/parts)

    This site now includes a by Service Tag path, by system type path or via a slick system analyzer that you can use to find qualified parts for your Dell or Alienware systems. This new tool gives us a very flexible tool set to offer upgrades, replacement parts and services.

    Step two is the content. I can tell you that myself and a few other key contributors on the Alienware team are actively engaged with the Parts and Upgrades teams to update the current content. In fact, we've already made a few key additions (The M11x R3 platform was added this week!) and are working to identify and fill in the remaining gaps in our current offerings.

    Please be patient with us. The site, with all its new features and abilities, is a new tool for us too so we're still learning what it can do and the best way to bring these items to you. It may take some time to fully realize the vision, but we hope to show steps in the right direction of the coming weeks.

    Thanks again for your post Ovittl1490 and we'll see you in the game.

    Russell
