I purchased a dell inspiron 15R(7520) BTX Base laptop which comes with a AMD Radeon HD7730M dedicated graphics card, however when I checked the graphic properties, I can only see the integrated intel HD4000 listed, hence I called support and the support technician confirmed that there is no option available in OS or BIOS to change this. I’ve been told that I’ll have to go into the graphic properties and configure for each program whether this program should be “high performance”(use the dedicated graphic instead of the integrated graphic).
I think this design completely defeats the purpose of having a dedicated graphic card, and I also don’t believe this could achieve any power saving either(when you have 2 on high performance and 3 on power saving running at the same time, how is this ever going to save any power???), plus it is incredibly annoying when you have a lot of process running on the background(eg SQL database back ends and Visual studio components), the graphic option prompt will constantly prompt you to configure these non-front end program whether they should be “high performance”.
Please include an option in the next update to give the user the option to switch between graphic card instead of forcing them to configure for each program. For example, if the laptop is plugged in use dedicated graphic as default, when it's on battery use the integrated graphic to achieve power saving.
