I like most of the Alienware recommended upgrades for R2.

I definitely think that Alienware should consider a premium and basic package.

The Premium Package should have the following

1. ssd options up to 500gb
2. top notch quiet cooling options
3. the top cpu with a balance of cooling and heat taken into consideration
4. A top performing gpu, video card
5. I would actually prefer a larger case, so the size of the current case could be the basic packaage and and an inch to the top, sides and back to achieve optimum cooling and packaging.
6 I am use to paying 3000 to 4000 for the top alienware laptop configurations, drop the screen, keyboard and battery I would have no problem paying 700 bucs less for the X51 then a high end m17x with highspec desktop components.

Imagine an X51 in a larger quieter but uniquely alienware x51 case running an ivy bridge cpu, a gtx 680, 256gb ssd, with attention to thermals, and quietness this can be done. I would not care about upgrading this system. Would run it 3 years and buy another. I would buy a basic package for the girlfriend. Also make sure to have usb 3.0 in the back, built in wireless and built in good sound ,I have an external speaker and monitor so dont care about speakers on the case.

I am waiting for this R2 case to arrive!!! It will of course have a stable windows 8 program running .I am hoping this December I can purchase it!! Hope Dell is listening since this will make the case perfect ( well if it was built out of carbon fiber or all aluminum would be perfect) Dell will own the small form factor pc market with this!!

When the X51 was first announced I already suggested an "X71" model (located here) that had a slightly larger case, thus enabling the potentials for more powerful components/options that were too big to fit in the small chassis.

Whether or not this will happen, however, depends on the demand for such a model, so people need to keep promoting that thread to ensure Dell/AW know customers want it.

I'm a big fan of the current size, and I don't think Alienware should try to bulk it out beyond its current scope. if you want a larger, beefier, machine you have other options.

It would be nice if Dell did make major improvements to the system, but the worry is the pricing for most people today, more graphics power means more expence, but it would be a good idea to put inĀ  more power in such a compact machine like the Dell Alienware 51
