We all know heat is a killer for laptops, many people opt for a cooling pad or riser to help vent out some of that heat.
So, why not just have something like a riser built in. Using the flip down feet like a keyboard has (2 heights to choose from) would allow users to prop up the back of the computer for better air flow, then flip the feet back in to put the laptop into your bag.
There is a company that makes stick on ones that do this, but they are large and ugly.

The cooling systems in Dell laptops are horribly designed. My Dell Vostro has a Nvidia Geforce has 16 CUDA cores and also has an Intel Dual Core and Broadcom Wireless chip and guess what? It only has one puny fan and no vents on the back of the computer, just one! I had to get a Coolermaster U2 Notepal just to deal with it.Dell should install two fans and at least three vents on laptops that have a GPU plus multi-core CPU's these machines. They should have feet that prop up to adjustable heights, and should have much better fan management so that much lower temps trigger the fans rather than waiting to get up to 60 deg. Celsius just to go full blast.
The fans also need to be 2x as powerful as they currently are. I don't care if the laptop fans make some noise as long as the consistent heat doesn't cut the life of my laptop from 5 years to 2.5 years. For high powered laptops people end up needing to buy cooling decks anyways, so why not just design the laptop cooling systems better from the start?

I like this idea. It's simple, yet extremely valuable to people who push their laptops to their limit with games or other demanding applications.Jun 11, 2012 Comment Link

Awesome idea, love it. My Dell system could benefit from this and it's more ergonomic. Would love to see this on power laptops...Great idea...
