XPS 15 - NEEDS powerhouse GPU, etc.

XPS15 could look a little better, but more importantly, the insides need some fixing.

1. GPU offers must be GDDR5 (the G being important). See notebookcheck.net and find out what Class I GPUs are missing from your options. Middle to weak Class II GPUs are useless in XPS computers. Keep those in Vostros or something else that isn't geared towards media/gamers.

2. Chiclet keyboard would be better. HP will be offering that.

3. Don't need 2 headphone jacks. Keep one, and let people use splitters if they want to. Please put a glow ring around the port.

4. Make the power port stable. Got to hand it to Mac for making it a magnet, which doesn't potentially damage the laptop port with frequent plug ins.

5. FHD always available. Don't drop the 900p like HP. Keep it in stock especially when SB is reintroduced.

6. Please read the threads on notebookreview.com for the Dell XPS 15 L501. Find the issues and correct them.

A MacBook killer will never exist unless you spend the time to make a quality competitor. XPS should be that. Not another mediocre Dell product.

Thanks for the idea submission. We're right there with you.

    1. Done. Nvidia 640M with 2GB GDDR5 is the top offering on the XPS 15 which launched on the 26th.
    2. Backlit chiclet keyboard is standard in all regions.
    3. One headphone jack it is. We didn't get the ring though.
    4. While we don't have a MagSafe implementation, the spec on the tightness of the DC-in jack is pretty tight and the barrel goes in pretty deep. It seems to be pretty stable.
    5. 1080p is the only option on the 15 (900p is the only option on the 14).
    6. I'm big on NBR. In fact, we just hosted a Google+ hangout with the XPS product planning director which was attended by mostly folks from NBR.

I agree with ArDarsh..I want a 15'' laptop with atleast nvidia 555m or amd 6770m..It should have a decent professional looks and not some carnival.
Note:There is no 15'' Alienware laptop

As noted elsewhere, not everybody wants a portable Christmas decoration to get good specs.

Maybe some people want a clean looking professional laptop with powerful specs and ARE willing to pay for it. So why can't it be an option? Lenovo plans on doing it this year in 15.6 models. I'm not looking for an SLI option, but the GT540 is midrange at most.

Pick a good demanding shooter such as Crysis 1/2 and then judge how the perform. They don't keep the framerates up on decent settings (not mid to super high, just even in med). The dv6t has a 6770 ddrFIVE option which certainly does much better, but it lacks the full HD.

What they should do is rethink the size and weight of these laptops.... Use the Adamo as a base to something better instead of trashing all the research done for it.

Why would Dell have the Alienware series then?

XPS should be placed as a more modern and optimal performance/portability ratio given that it's a step below Alienware and an step over the Inspiron.

    1. This is XPS, not Alienware, so I don't expect a top of the line GPU. And at the moment the XPS 15 already offers a GT 540M or a GT 525M, which are honestly enough for me, any more, and I'd worry for my battery life..

    2. Chiclet keyboards are IMHO nice looking, but make sure they are contoured and not flat, to guide the fingers to where the buttons are. What's most important is the FUNCTIONALITY, don't go around putting the Fn key far left, or do other silly things, it's a BIG turn off. Backlit keyboard should be COMPULSORY.

About numpads, check out my first idea. http://www.ideastorm.com/ideaView?id=087700000004I5wAAE

    3. Agree, don't know what's the SPDIF port for, I don't even know what it is, I doubt it's useful. I think glow rings should be useful as long as it is dim and not too flashy, gotta keep it professional.

    4. No comment. No troubles with it, but if it makes it any better, alright.

    5. 900p should be minimum and not 1366x768 for a 15.6". Then keep the 1080p available as an option. The 15.4" MacBook has a native 1440x900 resolution. Let's take that as the 'normal'.

More like Dell needs to make them thinner to be a Macbook competitor.  And have VGA output  and not some DisplayPort.  Good thing they have chiclet keyboard in new XPS 15 and 17.  More alluminum around body not a random mix of ugly black plastic, grey keyboard area, and then another lighter shade of elemental alluminum.  Look at the HP probook p-series and s-series as an example.

    1.  Lower end  XPS models could have it. If you want better performance, then expect to pay for it.
    2. Agreed. I love those keyboards. Don't forget the number pad.
    3. One is actully an mic port I think, if it is a headphone I see no reason to get rid of it. You can't force people to use spliters because you want them to. I'm not sure on the glow ring. Might look good on the gaming systems by alienware, but not a media machine like XPS
    4. Unfortancly good old Jobs doesnt want others to use that nice power port. I agree, it is nice.
    5. FHD?
other then that they should put it back in the design of the old studio XPS models. There should be something soon. Engadget had an article of them discontuning the XPS 14
