Hmm yeah fancy that. It doesn't matter if it's a multi-billion dollar company or a corner shop. If the guy that actually does the grunt work messes up then it all falls down. It's true Windows systems don't tend to go missing. But then again the whole system was designed around the sale of Windows systems. The Windows sales machine is very well oiled. The Linux options are more of an adhoc add-on that's just been kinda bodged onto the rest of the system and it's not running at peak efficiency as a result. The product description page for the M1330 with Windows Vista and the M1330n with Ubuntu used to be exactly the same! Right down to claiming you could use Microsoft Office via media direct without booting the PC. From the Linux consumer perspective we do get a second rate service. That's not to detract from the hard work the Linux engineers do to get us new products with Ubuntu. They do work really hard. It's a small team that's suddenly got to work to the 6 monthly release cycle of Ubuntu. Which is something they'd never really done before. Clearly they need a bigger team. When Dell gets the sales side of things right. For example adding Ubuntu to the OS list, then thing like this won't happen. It's also possible a really bad bug was caught at a late stage and the PC was pulled. Which is exactly what should happen. But Dell are unlikely to admit to that sort of thing. If it's back then be happy it's back. Buy one if you want one. john_h and matt_d are always here answering questions and they jump on these problems when they crop up. I'll stop rambling aimlessly now. Feel free to ignore this post. :opAug 14, 2008 Comment Link

Funny I've never seen a complaint that a windows computer has disappeared from the Dell.com site just after being announced for sale.Aug 14, 2008 Comment Link

Take it easy on 'em. They're probably running Windows. Problems like this are an inevitability. ; )Aug 14, 2008 Comment Link

So its ok for a multi-billion dollar company to have a site that repeatedly messes up? This is a COMPUTER company we are talking about. :)Aug 14, 2008 Comment Link

Be fair guys. The sales site is served from a database. Database sites can go crazy wrong for no real reason and then just work again. Now well over a year to fix a simple CSS school boy error? That's an issue with a vendor that needs sorting.Aug 14, 2008 Comment Link

4 days to fix a website glitch is a bit much isn't it? Obviously it was more than a glitch for it to take so long to fix and fix again.Aug 14, 2008 Comment Link
