Heat rises! Get the exhaust ports off the bottom of the laptops where it just blows back up into the machine. Put them out the side or the top and everything including processors, drives, batteries and the cooling systems themselves will run cooler and more efficiently. I already burned out one mother board, which thankfully was replaced under extended warrantee. I am so protective now that I never use my laptop without a supplemental cooling pad underneath, which blows the air out the sides. Unless this changes I would think twice about buying another or recommending a Dell laptop to anyone else without advising them of the problem.

Thank you for your idea submission. As of this time, no Dell laptops have exhaust vents on the bottom of the system. They either exit the side or back of the chassis. There are passive auxilliary cooling vents where the air is not pushed by a fan, and there are intake vents on many models on the bottom, but we do not currently actively exhaust via bottom vents.

i think the hyperbaric cooling would be a great solution to this, it provides a unique design that puts a fan at an intake point on the side of a laptop taking in cooler air, then the air flow is directed to critical components, and then hot air exhausted out the other side of the laptop. It is already in use in the Dell Vostro V13(i believe it is the V13, but i know it is a vostro)

Dell is still here and employees have posted comments on the site as recently as today.  I do agree that 3 years is a really long time to think about something.  Maybe Dell needs to check on the employee who's reviewing this and make sure they are still breathing.  :)

I really feel like if an idea has been under review for 3 years, Dell does not care about it. Honestly I dont think they care about this website anymore. No one from dell has posted on here for months...

Heat management on Dell laptops has always been an issue. Please Dell get your act together!

Problem is design: ---.__--- Dell puts MoBo up-side (thats why they need bottom went) , Lenovo put's ___-----___ mainboard with heatsink UP (this let's heat to transpire naturally up ... and then be blowed on sides. I think that better solution is "prcesor/heatsink UP" [not upside down]...

Liquid cooling is impractical in a laptop, due to the anti-shock requirements. Heatpipe is a more likely candidate technology.

also have equal cooling on both left and right sides of the machine! My new Inspiron ends up getting hot on the right side because theres only a vent on the top and a grille/mesh on the bottom, while the left has that plus the heatsink, a vent on the side also, and a fan in the grille mesh on the bottom, with plastic guides to stop it being blocked by a flat surface... I believe the GPU (i have the intel integrated 950 but oh well) is on the right side also ... this can get quite hot especially since i am testing the Compiz Fusion 3D accelerated desktop... meh.
