One Dell Quickset for All Dell Systems
Just make a global Dell Quickset i.e. one download, once downloaded it checks what OS you have, verifies that you have a Dell BIOs and then downloads the latest version of Dell Quickset for that OS. Much like the Dell Support Centre except of course the Latitudes and other systems have to be allowed to have it.
This way the newest version of Dell Quickset is available to all systems. Vostro, Studio, Inspiron, Latitude XPS etc.
Note I would like to be able to install it even on a Dell Desktop, to get the volume meter when using the likes of a Dell Multimedia Keyboard. It can of course detect it is a desktop and forget about the power/battery settings. I am using some other program for that but would of course prefer Dell Quickset.
The Vostro 1014, 1015 for example don't have a Dell Quickset download on their driver and downloads page, why not? I have seen on the community forums some users wanting it. If it was global to all Dell systems this would save them the hassle.
Having all these different versions is particularly annoying when someone upgrades their OS. They may not have a native Dell Quickset Driver on their downloads page and have no choice but to look for it on a newer system, it is hit or miss if their system is compatible.
For example those installing Quickset on an Inspiron 1300 or 6000 with Vista. The Inspiron 1300, 6000 and Inspiron 6400 shared a common Windows XP Dell Quickset Driver. Yet the Windows Vista Quickset driver for the Inspiron 6400 denied one to install Dell Quickset on the Inspiron 1300 and 6000.
