ideaStorm should be more than a glorified suggestion box.

IdeaStorm desperately needs a makeover in order to make the site successful.  A new home page and content would go a long way in helping improve things.  The home page needs to do more than just show the top ideas in order to make visitors want to participate.  Dell could still show some of those ideas but also some of the newly posted ideas as well as other content such as the ideas in action posts, storm sessions, member spotlights and Dell product announcements.  If done properly it would make the site inviting to new visitors and keep it interesting for older ones as well.

JSqrt - it could be borring, but like it or not, there are plenty of people that use two systems (including some of Linux distribution -most cases Ubuntu). I understood some of those people consequent asking for linux-related stuff - they (partly I) feel that Linux that is more and more widely used is pushed out from "media", not treated seriously. I dont know how it works in US, but in EU if you want to pass IT lowest qualifiaction tests (IT Technician) you are obliged to be able to service Linux, OpenOffice (now Libre office). This are things taught in high school. It become not only part of IT Infrastructure but normally used OS.

Well said Christopher.  As bill_j mentioned Dell is looking to evolve the site.  If you haven't seen it yet, check out the latest Ideas in Action update where Bill talks about recent changes.  Dell is bringing me onto the IdeaStorm team as the community manager to help improve engagement and work on the evolution of the site.  I've have lots of things I'd like to improve with the site and hope to be soliciting feedback from the community soon.

I have been here for two years, and I'm really happy that this is possible. From customer point of view , beeing able to put pressure how future hardware will look/behave is priceless. There isn't any other option than asking as many people as possible to get product as friendly too all as possible (suited best for all/ optimal).

Simply put, Dell should care more for their IdeaStorm participants, use them/us as FOCUS group (we most have more than 1 dell hardware!). Any type of gratiffication will be also nice (gadgets, mousepads), any. Maybe sort of hall of fame ... :) ... I don't know ...

I am little bit addicted to visiting Ideastorm theseday, I think that  It's amazing system but the one thing I suggest to Dell is that It's better to show how my idea's impleted. That's not enough for IdeaStorm Members to feedback "IDEA Recap" or "Commented by dell"  How about showing Picture in Process of implement ideas.. something visual etc.. us. ?

Thanks for the comment Bill.  I'd be interested to see what others think could be added or changed as well.

Great suggestion Cy. Internally, we (or at least I) have been focused on the longer-term evolution of the platform... but your post is a helpful reminder that IdeaStorm is social software, and we should be planning for more regular and incremental improvements.

IdeaStorm Members: What other suggestions do you have for updates to the home page?
