Dell's new line of Vostro computers are frankly boring. Why is it that business computers like office buildings are boring. If you are like me you spend a lot of time on a work computer mildly annoyed by it's minimalist nature.
Why don't all business computers come with integrated webcams. If anyone is going to use webcams en mass you'd think businesses would do it.
Work can be boring enough without being surrounded by boring furniture, boring work colors and boring computers.
Spice up the work place just a little and add some less boring features and designs to work computers.

Thank you badblood for causing Dell to discontinue some of the best products that they ever made (the original Vostro notebook PCs), replacing them with the vastly inferior 1310/1510/1710 notebooks. Thank you, I appreciate it (sarcasm of course)!Aug 6, 2008 Comment Link

jaedo, I agree! The Vostro 1400, 1500 and 1700 looked far better than the 1310, 1510 and 1710.Jul 5, 2008 Comment Link

On the original topic -- I can't stand what the major vendors are doing with their consumer-grade laptops. The colors, chrome and pointless rounding make the laptops look like ridiculous toys or props from a 1960s sci-fi movie. They are, quite simply, ugly. They attract the wrong kind of attention. If I'm sitting at a Starbucks, I don't want people gawking at my laptop as if it was Flavor Flav's latest necklace accessory! Dell, please don't "pimp the bling" on the Vostros.Apr 17, 2008 Comment Link

@jervis961 - I spoke with a Vostro product manager and yes, Dell is still keeping the 14 inch in the Vostro lineup for the time being. The Vostro 1310 is not replacing the 1400; however, we expect the market to continue to move in that direction. We will listen to our customers and watch the trends closely to determine if the 1400 continues to be a viable solution for them. Then we will make the call on the future of that system as part of our Vostro lineup.Apr 16, 2008 Comment Link

Sorry for joining the party so late!! I've recently joined the small business team at Dell as the Small Business Community Manager. Dell launched a new lineup of Vostro laptops today that include integrated webcams as an option. I also want to clarify that we had integrated cams available as an option on the original Vostro lineup - 1400, 1500 and 1700. The only model that does not have a camera is the Vostro 1000. And to winoffice's point, the webcams are an option so you don't have to pay for something that you won't use.Dec 24, 2007 Comment Link
