Majority of the laptops sold today are business or working laptops. what i mean by that is, they are all fast, efficient, light, but they tend to have an integrated graphics card or have a weak one. You can't enjoy playing video games, because today's games demand a good graphics card. gaming laptops tend to be big, heavy and costly, because they have to make a small video card, which is expensive, not that fast as a desktop video card and tend to overheat. in my experience only the video card tends to heat up fast while playing games rather than cpu or any other part.
in my perspective, as a student, i dont play games at school but i do want to play them at home when i want to relax.
so at school or at work you could use the light weight fast laptop, and at home, plug your outer video card in and you can enjoy the today's games. you need to sit behind a desk anyway to play the games properly, so that little extra box on your table, size of a router probably, aint a problem, and it won't overheat, because it could have a big fan on it, like a desktop video card, so no problemos with that.

mine external PCIe is the cheapest way!, not expensive thunderbold cable
no extra case no extra cost , just get a graphicscard and plug it in or out.
the problem is a lot people need time to understand the easiest things

1 thunderbolt is not from Appoole but from inteland all can use it
2 msi idea is:
Laptop->cable->graphics card
mine idea is
Laptop->extern PCIE->graphics card
two technological different things
(i agree for people that hawe no clue abaut technologies all looks the same, so thats why i cleared it)

Perhaps this idea is already implemented by msi! They have actually built an external GPU system which can be connected to laptops via thunderbolt! That means currently only apple laptops can use this GPU system unless thunderbolt supported ivybridge laptops hit the market!Mar 28, 2012 Comment Link

I think current laptops are not intended for gaming or does not have the power for such cards. Still however, Dell has better gaming laptops and desktops in Allienware series.Better video cards would require better CPUs, fan, power etc., which will increase the cost. Dell currently has Inspiron for budget customers, XPS series for medium level and Allienware for Premium customers.
