My family and I have taken on the project to save a small non-profit zoo in Rising Sun Maryland. With my husband and I working full time during the week and managing the operations of the zoo in our "free" time, it has become truely a 24/7 operation. I am always trying to find ways to make operations more efficient. With over 100 animals, it is increasing difficult to keep track of the animal healthcare. This is most important to us. There are several software packages one can find but none are "on the fly" for the most efficient use. Time is always an issue in today's busy schedules. Being non-profit, money is always an issue. Let me throw out an idea to see what Dell thinks. It would be nice to be able to have an small portable device (like an IPad) with a barcode scanner so when the vet goes to an enclosure, they can scan a bardcode label to bring up the animal information. Then actually add what they are doing right then and there. This way, animal records are as up to date as it can be and reports can be generated quickly. I think what is done for human patients in hospitals could be a template to start this brainstorming. With wifi availability, it could be sycranized with any PC automatically.
