Offer an all-in-one computer... Ideally with wireless-n for networking and bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Despite appearing as an all-in-one, screen and computer should be modular components that can be interchanged and/or upgraded seperately.

Dell has a business partner that is releasing an AIO stand that will handle SFF, USFF and others, with 17-22W monitors. The Ergotron Universal AIO is due out in the next month or so.

Dell has one modular system now based on OptiPlex ultra-small form factor (USFF) systems. Last year the line was a bit larger because it included the small form factor (SFF) systems. These systems use standard OptiPlex components mounted on a clever all-in-one (AIO) stand.

I deployed several GX620 SFF AIO systems with 19" displays last year. My clients love these systems because they are compact. In effect, the entire computer occupies the space (actually less space) formerly taken up by a 17" CRT display.

Unfortunately, Dell reduced the number of models by eliminating the SFF version and restricting the USFF version to a 17" display. I'd like to see the SFF version return to the lineup. I think it would be popular if Dell promoted it a bit better rather than burying details.

This does sound like an iMAC. What Dell would need to do is an all in one that is not clunky (like previous attempts except Apple have been). As such, the idea of being able to upgrade the components won't work because that will fly against the need to be "slim and trim". Probably the best way would be to follow Apple's example, and use a notebook chipset and mobo (because the components are smaller).

Actually that's closer to a description of an Apple iMac.

ah you just described a half notebook.. It would be great if I have a notebook which I could detach the LCD once it stopped working) and use a separate LCD monitor instead. I can continue using the base as a portable computer minus the display.
