AMD has already publicly demonstrated the new Trinity core APU and it appears to be an excellent performer. I doubt anyone will argue that there is definite demand for thinner notebooks with improved 3D capabilities. I personally am going to be purchasing a Trinity-based notebook and would definitely prefer it to be in the form of a thinner 14" Alienware, XPS, or Latitude. I also work at a desktop support company and have many contacts within the game development community here in Austin. So Dell has the potential to gain from my recommendations if they decide to produce what I'm suggesting.
And I'm proposing this with the requirement that Dell offers virtually identical configuration options that they afford their Intel laptops. I can't begin to describe the frustation when I attempt to configure one of the few AMD laptops currently offered by dell: only one or two processor options (no option for A8), no option for dual graphics, and no option for 3-year warranty. If Dell is going to do this, then it might as well not bother even offering an AMD option.
Also, while am impressed with Dell's new ultrabook, lets also see a version with AMD's 17-watt Trinity, which will undoubtedly be less expensive and have superior graphics.
Thank you!

If Dell does indeed opt to offer some better AMD kit, please don't hide it from your customers. Currently, users can pick models by processor type, but AMD isn't even an option- even though the AMD-powered Vostro is available if you scroll down the page just a bit. With all the Intel branding screaming at you with every click, you'd think that Dell would have at least a *little* more AMD branding and information on the site. The attached graphics are just a small example of what I'm referring to.Apr 21, 2012

To elaborate: I envision the Alienware m14utx as having the same width and depth as the m14x, but with the thickness of the m11x. I'm certain this can be achieved given the how thin Dell's ultrabook is.Oct 14, 2012 Comment Link

The XPS ultrabooks are ultracrap as you mentioned; Intel APUs with Single Channel Memory + a week Nvidia 630M. The two working engines have too high power consumption, the laptop is noisy and hot.A good A10-4600M laptop beat all these crap in all the way; with cool operation, low fan noise and higher overall performance.

YES = AMD a8 + thats all I will ever buy from now until intel can play catch up... (not likely to happen any time soon)The dell Ultrabooks are ultra weak - you should not call something ULTRA unless it is the best of the best- and beyond - the only way that can be true is if you have two graphics cards - and the best processor available at the time of manufacture.
Bring in AMD Quad core processing with Crossfire graphics...
Shame on dell for their poor marketing - ultrabooks - xps - there is nothing ultra OR extreme about ANY of your latest products... especially the small ones...
Show me a 12 inch laptop that can run any game -at the highest settings - while transcoding a video , watching a bluray - downloading multiple torrent files - copying things over the usb bus - running Dreamweaver - photoshop and 100 web browser tabs in the background - and not slow down or heat up...
That would be the AMD a8 or a10 with crossfire - at an average $600.00 price tag =
Compare that to your $1500.00 'ultra book' - wait... you cant...there is no comparison... the ultra book could only do one of those things at a time- and not as fast... if at all...
I need a business machine -that is powerful - and small... portable...
After the xps m1210 dell engineers fell off the wagon and started making sub par systems... Alienware has nothing that is small and can do everything (no optical drives? really? - no small 12" screens ? ...)

Yep, it would be a good idea to include AMD trinity as well, also as an option, it would make more sense as it is a bit more powerful than Ivy bridge when it comes to processing power, energy efficient than IVY bridge and has ultimate graphics compared to IVY bridge also.Jun 15, 2012 Comment Link
