Dell really... REALLY need to stop overcharging... and when i say overcharing... i mean atleast double what you would pay to pick up the ram yourself.
On XPS Notebooks... you are charging $500 for 4GB of ram... when you could easily go pick them up at your local computer shop for $250... and pocket the other half of the $500...
It would be nice if dell could save the customers as well as the company itself this hassle.. and start charging NORMAL prices for an upgrade in RAM.
thanks =D
PS..... PROMOTE THIS!!!!

What Dell is doing here is capitalizing on ignorance. People who don't know get to pay more, and in a way, it's fair. Knowledge has its price, and I rather pay less for a barebones system I'll upgrade myself and let Dell profit from people who need the hand holding.Jun 29, 2011 Comment Link

Unfortunately, this is how million dollar corporations stay in business. Even though Dell makes hundreds of millions of dollars on providing the US Army with their Desktops and majority of their Laptops, excluding Panasonic Toughbooks of course. You would think they could pass the savings down to the little people. I am not sure when the post of the over charged RAM was created and who originated the idea, the fact is, that's business and if we want it, we pay for it. By the way, check out Tiger Direct, RAM for Laptops are a great deal cheaper than $250 for 4GB. Instead of trying to change something they have no plans of changing, buy the "other" guys RAM and install yourself.Jun 27, 2011 Comment Link

Its unfortunate that Dell continues to charge high prices for some of these upgrades. Part of the problem here is really that the consumer has full access to what the real price difference is at thier favorite outlet for an upgraded component. Yes, dell has to come down in price. But realize that at the volumes that dell purchases, they cant get that $70 clearance price on processors from Ali G's Computer Superstore you are looking at (an exaggeration, i know). IN the end, Dell needs to come down a little bit and accept a little less margin but the community has to realize that dell needs to make some money on every machine or its back to depending on other retailers who wont go as far or haven't done as much to try and integrate your feedback.Aug 5, 2008 Comment Link

Well, It shouldn't cost 250$ just for 4 GB of ram to be preinstalled. And secondly, since you guys order your stuff in bulk, It should be cheaper. You guys do need to make a profit, though. So I think somwhere around 300$ is a good amount (like in the range of 200-400 dollars).1 2 3 4 5 ... 10 Next
