A 256GB SSD will retail for $350.
But to add it to a Dell XPS15 costs $709.50 extra to upgrade from a 750GB 7200RPM normal hard drive.

If a retailer can make a profit for an entire SSD at $350, why do Dell charge $709 for an upgrade?????
Dell can buy an SSD for less than any local dealer as they get a massive bulk discount.

This means that we buy an XPS15 that is a second tier computer, as the cost prohibits an SSD which is essential for a first tier machine. This is ridiculous. Most consumers will not tolerate this kind of price gouge. So the XPS is no longer special.

Dell should get its act together and drop the price of a 256GB SSD upgrade to $350, or else realise they have just become another Lenovo/ Toshiba/ too hard to deal with.
This is not kind of behaviour that brought me to Dell, but it is the type that will make me think of leaving.
