How come the touchpad cannot be placed behind the keys on the computer? As the other person stated a lot of crazy things happen, lost most of my paper that I was typing had to start over again. I had 800 and some words ended up with 300 something. This is not the first time this happened, last time it did some kind of autosave (which I do not know how that happened either), just seems the touchpad would work better placed somehwere else. The other part of this is that I do not even use the touchpad, I plug the mouse into the side of the laptop. I have more control of the mouse than I do with the touchpad. Interested on seeing what the reasoning is behind the placement of the touchpad. Thanks for your time.
Terry

This posting has helped me find the disable feature. The first thing I did after switching on my Vostro for the first time was to go on-line and order a BT mouse. Why not revert to the old type erazer pencil in the centre of the keyboard. They were much better!

Yes, I have tried changing the touchpad settings, but this still happens sometimes. I switch the touchpad off when I am using only the keys and an external mouse. But when I need the touchpad on when typing, I frequently seem to accidentally touch or swipe the pad a bit too strongly so as to move the cursor off to another location and type in at the wrong place or sometimes inadvertently select some text and overtype on it. I do not think most people experience this problem but in my office of about 30 people I know that a few also have this problem.May 7, 2012 Comment Link

How about making the touchpad more recessed? I think this will decrease the chance of it being accidentally touched while typing. It would be a pain to have to switch the touchpad on and off often when doing work that requires using both the keys and the pad frequently. It would also be preferable to have a single (one-touch) button for the touchpad switch rather than having to press two far-apart keys, I think.May 7, 2012 Comment Link

Terry - Thank you for posting. The placement of the touchpad infront of the keyboard is standard in the industry. It stands to reason that if the touchpad was placed behind the keyboard it would be in an inconvenient location for those who use it as they would need to reach across the keyboard. Since you do not use it, here is a link for our support site that explains how to turn off the touchpad.
