Why do you force us to buy laptops with 1366x768 pixels? It is simply absurd in 2011, even was 10 years ago. We only buy because we do not have other option...

@veer01_42 - a few points of clarification. When this idea was posted in 2011, I interpreted it as customers, at a minimum, want higher resolution OPTIONS across a wider selection of platforms. I understand that some folks would like 1366x768 to be banished on anything above a 14" laptop but that's not going to happen.
The product planners however DID take this feedback very seriously, and ensured that the next generation of platforms, like the 14/15/17" Inspiron R Special Edition and Vostro 3000 series systems, offered 900p/1080p display options. From there it is up to the regional merchandizing teams to make that option available, based on historical data around customer preferences, best-selling configs etc. Here in the U.S. for example the merch teams chose to make the 1080p display standard on Inspiron Special Edition systems, while it is available on a limited number of Vostro 3000 series configurations.
I also want to take this opportunity to confirm that the Inspiron R Special Edition platform should be viewed as the next generation replacement for the original XPS products that launched in late 2010 / early 2011 from a spec for spec and pricing comparison. So, if there is not Full HD option available on the XPS 15 (L502X) it's because it's at end of life and will not be available much longer as the Inspiron R special Edition replaces it. The NEW XPS 15 which just launched this week comes with a gorgeous Full HD 1080p display standard.
So the good news is that the ideas and feedback posted here IS absolutely taken into consideration when we plan next generation products. This particular thread was instrumental supporting the business case to including HD+ & FHD displays options in our mainstream products and I want to thank everyone for taking the time to share their feedback on this.

@veer01_42 "You say that Anne_c, but on the XPS 15 right now, the best resolution screen available is a 1366x768 option, no 1600x900 or 1920x1080 option. Please know your own SKUs."Anne knows her SKUs, and so do I. So I'll go ahead and point out what Anne said:
"Dell will continue to offer 1366x768 panels where it makes sense. We will also continue to offer higher resolution panels on higher end systems..."
What she's intimating is high end systems 14" and up will not see 1366 on future offerings ("will also continue" indicates future state and does not comment on present state at time of comment publication), but that the more premium brands will offer higher resolution panels. Not all our buyers of the systems at the lower price points value high resolution screens, and the operational cost of offering a base Inspiron configuration with a higher resolution screen will not overcome the low "attach rate" among those base Inspiron customers. It stands to reason, however, that if one is buying at a higher price point, there is an expectation of higher screen quality and resolution, which we have met with the offerings in the current XPS and Inspiron R Special Edition laptops.

I also hate this resolution for business laptops. My new employer gave me a Vostro 3550 with a 1366x768 resolution. Before I received it, I was expecting a 1440 x 900, but crossing my fingers and praying for a 1650 x 1050.I was shocked to find out it was a 1366 x 768.
Browsing the web, reading pdf and creating text documents requires a lot of scrolling. And Excel files are a horror since the ridiculously large ribbon on top.
I understand that most screens made nowadays are this resolution, hence Dell can buy them cheaply so uses them as a standard for most of their laptops. And I know Dell offers higher resolutions as on option on some of their more expensive models. But some companies just can't offerd those models, and... seriously... 1366x768?!?

I just want to add by saying... there seems to be an obsession today with either offering 720 or 1080 on a screen. That's all nice for a TV screen, but completely irrelevant for a laptop display!!
Laptop displays need to come in more variety.. For example, on a 15" display, 1920x1080 is too high for my standards, but 1366x768 is a complete joke. I'd prefer something in the middle. Start offering it!

Funny that my 15" Vostro 3555 has maximum 1366x768 screen resolution, while 9.7" Apple Ipad 3 tablets comes with 2048x1536 pixels. I start to understand why laptops loosing market share...Jan 17, 2012 Comment Link

Now even Android tablets are about to appear with WUXGA displays.http://www.anandtech.com/show/5324/asus-transformer-prime-tf700t-new-cover-for-improved-wireless-adds-1920-x-1200-panel
When is Dell going to get a grip and catch up with the modern day needs of customers? Five years ago (XPS M1710) it was no problem. Why has it become one? If you build it we will buy.
As for that Storm Session link above, I was not able to join the session.
